Address Issues Raised by OBJ, Tambuwal, Others, Dr Davies Tells Jonathan

Posted on December 19, 2013. Filed under: Press Release | Tags: , , , |

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Interim Chairman in Rivers State, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, has advised President Jonathan to address the nation on crucial issues raised in the letter recently written to him by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in a matter of days. As his silence is no longer golden! Dr. Ikanya in a statement in Port Harcourt described the issues raised in General Obasanjo’s letter as being too weighty to be swept under the carpet. He cautioned against attacking the personality of Obasanjo, saying it would be tantamount to attacking the messenger rather than addressing the issues raised, which, according to him, would determine the country’s future.
“We will not like to pass any judgement at the moment until we hear from Mr. President on some of the issues General Olusegun raised, particularly the allegation that the President is setting up a Presidential Strike Force to carry out terrorist attacks on political opponents and the one pertaining to the diversion of $49.8b from the Federation Account,” Dr. Ikanya said.
He also advised President Jonathan “to tell Nigerians if he did assure General Obasanjo as stated in his letter that he would not contest the 2015 general election and if, he did, to adopt the Mandela option and forgo the 2015 general election if truly he loves this nation. This will make him not only a statesman but also our own Mandela and thereby save our nation the trauma his perceived candidature for 2015 is causing the nation.”

Continuing, the Rivers State Interim APC Chairman questioned: “Has Mr. President any hand in the current plot to destabilise PDP as contained in the letter and trying to sacrifice Tukur for all his alleged muddling in the affairs of the party? What of the current effort by some of Mr. President’s aides to cause confusion in Rivers State through the ill-advised attempt by the minority lawmakers to impeach Governor Chibuike Amaechi? Mr. President must address the nation on all these allegations one by one and reassure us on our future as a nation. He should also address the massive corruption going on in the NNPC as alleged by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, and the CBN Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi. Keeping quiet on these serious and unfortunate issues is not helping matters.

“Our nation has suffered enough and Mr President must be seen as providing the leadership he was elected to deliver”, Dr Davies concluded.

PDP Rejects Court’s Order on Rivers Assembly Speaker

Posted on December 19, 2013. Filed under: Press Release | Tags: |

The Peoples Democratic Party Rivers State chapter says it is dissatisfied with interim order by an Ahoada High Court presided over by Hon. Justice C. N. Wali, restraining member representing Ogu/Bolo in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Evans Bapakaye Bipi from parading himself as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The Party describes the order as a gimmick and premeditated judgment coming from Governor Amaechi’s judicial stooge, who has records of perverting justice in favour of the Governor.

The PDP believes that due legal process was not followed in the determination of the matter, as a case that was instituted at the Ahoada High Court Registry on Friday, the 13th day of December 2013 will on Monday, December 15, 2013 be discharged in favour of the claimants, noting that it is only aware of the ruling through the mass media but yet to receive the Court Order.

The Party says it will respond to the ruling appropriately after studying the details of the Court Order, but emphasizes that the ruling does not in any way represent an outcome of a due judicial process, and is therefore bound not to be effective.

The PDP uses this medium to call on all its supporters to always strive to remain calm as the Party cannot be denied its right place in the scheme of things in the State.

The party condemns Justice Wali’s propensity of giving orders in favour of Governor Amaechi without recourse to the rule of law and due process.

The party also hints that it would drag Justice Wali before the National Judicial Council (NJC) Disciplinary Committee on reckless interim orders.

Plot to Use Rebel Lawmakers to Impeach Gov. Amaechi Unmasked

Posted on December 15, 2013. Filed under: news | Tags: |

The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says it wishes to alert the public on the desperation of the six rebel members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, acting at the behest of Education Minister, Nyesom Wike, to illegally and unconstitutionally impeach Governor Chibuike Amaechi.

The party in a statement by Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, Senior Special Aide on Media and Public Affairs to the Interim State Chairman said credible information at their disposal has it that the six rebel lawmakers have concluded plans to use hired hoodlums to forcefully gain entrance into the Rivers State House of Assembly for the purpose of impeaching Governor Amaechi as directed by their sponsors in Abuja.

Making reference to one of the pro- Wike lawmakers’ stance, the party noted that, “As a measure of his confidence, the self-acclaimed Speaker and Leader of the six rebel lawmakers, Hon. Evans Bipi, today in Port Harcourt boasted that he holds the key to the State House of Assembly and that he will gain entrance to the complex whenever he feels like sitting with his members. Needless to say that this devilish plot, if allowed to see the light of day, will throw Rivers State into unprecedented chaos, but God in His infinite mercy will not allow it to come to pass”.

Continuing, the party said the allegation of leaders of PDP in Rivers State that Governor Amaechi intends to invite the majority 28 members of the State House of Assembly to sit in the Government House and pass the 2014 Budget of the State was not only laughable but also showed their level of ignorance.

“These funny characters forgot so soon that Governor Amaechi was the Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly for eight years and Chairman of the Speakers Forum in Nigeria; so he knows the rudiments of law-making and can never be involved in any arrangement that would see lawmakers sitting outside the hallowed chambers of the State House of Assembly to pass the State Budget”.

The party thanked Rt. Hon. Amaechree, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and other patriotic lawmakers in the State for ensuring that a minority group doe not hold the state to ransom as desired by PDP leaders in Rivers and their paymasters in Abuja.

APC called on the police which stopped the majority lawmakers from sitting in the State House of Assembly recently, to rise to the occasion and ensure that the rebel lawmakers do not gain access to the hallowed chambers to perpetrate the weirdest impeachment in history, and one which, if permitted to happen, is capable of setting off a chain of events that could truncate Nigeria’s hard-earned democracy.
