Peterside commiserates with the Awolowo family, describes HID as a great woman of substance Hon. Dakuku Peterside

Dr. Dakuku Peterside, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers State in the April election has commiserated with the Awolowo family on the exit of their Matriarch, Madam Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo.

Peterside who described Awolowo as a great woman of substance said Nigeria will miss her interventions and wise counsel.

A press statement signed by Sylvester Asoya Special Assistant on Media to Dr.Dakuku Peterside and made available to NF-Reports noted that, “Among the wives of First Republic politicians, HID was without any doubt, one of the most visible and outstanding women of that glorious era. The sage himself captured her real essence when he fondly described her as “My Jewel of Inestimable value.”

According to Hon. Dakuku, that apt description, over the years, gave a hint on her real meaning, not just to the Awolowo family, friends and admirers, but to the entire nation.

“A great Iroko has indeed fallen but like every mortal, she must travel this path. She will be remembered for her resourcefulness and carriage, and for being the pillar behind the great Awo.

“Without HID, it is very doubtful if Chief Obafemi Awolowo would have become that enigmatic and successful politician who bestrode our nation’s political space for many decades.

“HID, like Chief Awolowo, will never die. Surely, she will live forever, particularly in the minds of those who benefitted from her husband’s vision in human capital development.

“She will be greatly missed. And for the living, particularly those in public office, we must all draw from her example of service, consistency and commitment to great ideals. May her soul rest in peace”

What soldiers do on Enugu-PH Expressway

What soldiers do on Enugu-PH Expressway

By Odimegwu Onwumere

As the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway gets messier in traffic gridlock due to the dilapidated nature of the road between Oyigbo in Rivers State and Asa, in Abia State, where I shuttle most time, I resorted to riding  my own ‘Okada’ to work.

Any motorist that had experienced the severe traffic jam on this road would attest to the fact that, even the ‘Okada’ was not saving. Vehicles block everywhere. This does not allow easy movement of any kind. In the eventuality there is ‘no movement’, I do carry my motorcycle in the hand till I get a scarce access to continue my journey. Other Okada riders do this!

This happens any time: In the morning, afternoon and night. Many travellers have slept on this road. Motor fare has skyrocketed indiscriminately, because of the bad nature of the road. It is better imagined than experienced.

Dressing neatly and gorgeously is no longer on the Enugu-PH expressway.

Not minding the suffering of people on this road, no fault of theirs, if you are coming from the Aba area in Abia State, you will count over four police checkpoints, as soon as you pass the Imo Bridge. Yes, they ‘stop and search’ some vehicles, even at the peril of motorists and commuters, who had expended their energy and strength in the tiresome traffic jam.

I observed that using SUV otherwise called Jeep on this road, police have phobia for it. For ten vehicles flagged down for check, SUV is nine.

However, for some of us who are now ‘Okada riders’, crossing the Imo Bridge from Oyigbo, heading to Aba, has become a nightmare in the hands of soldiers stationed within the Oil Serve premises.

The soldiers make it mandatory that every Okada rider approaching their checkpoint must stop at about three poles away, come down and roll his motorcycle by the hand.

Sorry, if you are a newcomer, who did not know that that was the soldiers representation of democracy.

I do not want to say that authorities should investigate‬ the soldiers stationed on South-South-East zones; they make tollgate of the roads. Every truck that passes the roads, the civilian tax collectors, mainly young men, the soldiers employed, run after the driver and collect.

Any driver that refuses to pay, you might think he was a common criminal in the hands of the soldiers. I do not also want to say that the soldiers have marked faces; some of them are the appearance of herdsmen. I’m not sure when the people of South-South and South-East started having such tribal mark on their faces.

The other day, while it was raining heavily and I was drenched while on my Okada, the soldier that was at the checkpoint mandated me to roll my bike by hand. When I buttonholed him and told him that I’m a writer coming back from work and he should see the mud Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway is, coupled with the rain, he commandeered me to abscond or risk sitting in the mud.

Some Okada riders, who out of necessity, not curiosity, violate this military law, are either forced to sit in muddy water or cut grass.

Whenever I encounter this ‘military law’ on this road, I murmur that the government that was supposed to be ourselves is now that of the soldiers over us. They are now the ultimate rulers over us, not us the voters and taxpayers of this country.

Our so-called democracy has made me to remember the statement once made by a Charles Bukowski, which states that the difference between a democracy and a dictatorship is that in a democracy you vote first and take orders later; in a dictatorship you don’t have to waste your time voting.

I had thought that if the soldiers think that Okada riders pose security threats to them, it behooves them to know that information of intelligence capacity is shared, not forcefully derived. I think these soldiers lack information and they resort to malevolence.

Some of the soldiers are below 24 and may be suffering from youthful exigencies than exhibition of military enlightenment. They make the military a facade of the behaviours of touts and street urchins. Then I wonder if this is the behaviour of the military in other spheres. Or, is it only in Nigeria?

It is high time the authorities made the Nigerian soldiers to ruminate on the fact that the total safeguard to our mankind and democracy is diplomacy, not debasement. Yes, it is true that the country is experiencing security challenges. But these soldiers ought to understand that a taste for a society of peace can never be achieved through violence, when the situation is totally in absence of war.

The soldiers have violated my fundamental right to freedom of movement severally on the Enugu-PH expressway. And if I was a man of violence, then it would have been eye for eye later and, the whole place would collapse.

The authorities should re-orientate them to understand that this is democracy. And in a democracy, no section should be autocratic. That was the reason one A. P. J. Abdul Kalam once said that in a democracy, the well-being, individuality and happiness of every citizen is important for the overall prosperity, peace and happiness of the nation.

Top leaders of Delta State support Governor Okowa’, Ebireri urges

—– warns those working against Governor Okowa

Henry EbireriChief Press Secretary to the Delta State House of Assembly Speaker, Mr. Henry Ebireri on Thursday reached out to top leaders of the state, urging them to support Governor Ifeanyi Okowa saying,“His Excellency, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa is forthright, honest and meek in attitude. He understands issues of both economics and socio-political weight and he is driving the state in the direction that we want it.

In a statement issued in Asaba, Ebireri expressed optimism that Governor Okowa would win at the tribunal.

He praised the governor for the radical changes in the state.  “Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is a role model and the best governor in Nigeria. He is a committed member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and also receptive to new ideas which are needed in sustaining the Delta beyond oil initiative of the past administration” he said.

He warned those working against Governor Okowa in the state, urging traditional rulers, politicians, women and youths to support the governor. “Rt. Hon Ovwigho Igbuya has a cordial relationship with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. His Excellency, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has vision, moral fortitude, zeal, leadership, commitment and love for all. He enjoys the friendship of the leadership of the party and the confidence of the people and will definitely triumph at the tribunal” the statement said.

Ebireri who exuded confidence that Dr. Okowa would defeat his opponents at the tribunal lauded him for galvanizing the people to self-development, energizing the economy, raising the standard of living of the people through adequate inter-village communication, focusing on capacity-building institutions, increasing rural output and creating employment opportunities.

“Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is showing the necessary leadership by matching words with action through evolving workable development approaches, proper co-ordination and funding.”

Continuing, the statement said “Delta State is witnessing consolidated and programmed development. Governor Okowa is running the affairs of the state successfully. In making appointments, Okowa is taking the entire geography of the state into consideration, paying adequate attention to interests that will assist in the overall development of the state and spreading social and infrastructural amenities.

Ebireri described Governor Okowa as a charismatic leader with a strong moral belief of how things should be; urging him not to be disturbed by the actions of some unscrupulous politicians.

“Please keep up the good work, particularly, urban and rural development, job creation and empowerment of the less privileged and the vulnerable in our society” he said.

The statement also praised the honourable speaker for promoting the people’s welfare and taking the state to greater heights. “Rt. Hon Igbuya is an embodiment of progress, peace and prosperity in Sapele. He is providing the right leadership for the betterment of the people of the state, particularly Sapele. He is a stickler for hard work and excellence” the statement added.

The Trent Online, Pro Jonathan website determines to ridicule President, VP, & Elrufai’s relationships

The Trent Online, Pro Jonathan website determines to ridicule President, VP, & Elrufai’s relationships

By Oluwole Isaac.

Why will a news medium pack its supposed news article with a bunch of lies? Or why will a reporter and the editor, who are meant to disclose truth to the reading public, embark on a fictitious journey misleading the very audience that they are meant to inform. Could there be a hidden agenda that TheTrentOnline is trying to implement?

Writing under the headline “Osinbajo insulted by El-Rufai, Walks Out on President Buhari”. TheTrentOnline completely fabricates scenarios that are not known to truth. Not only that, the website makes references to previously baseless claims that have been conclusively rebutted and dismissed, ignoring the very basic ethical commitment to truth of a journalist and a media outlet.

In one of its latest fictions presented as a news report, with the headline above, the website reported that “A few weeks back, our investigations reveal, the tension between Osinbajo and El-Rufai came to a head when Governor El Rufai insulted Vice President in a meeting in the Presidential Villa in Aso Rock, and Osinbajo reacted by denouncing El-Rufai and walking out of the meeting which had President Buhari presiding”

TheTrentOnline did not disclose the time of the said meeting, the agenda of the meeting or the specific cause of the purported disagreement, yet the only website, went to great length to purvey such aspersions.

A simple investigation in Aso Rock easily as revealed, that there were no such incidents. Besides, it is well known that the relationship between the President and the Vice President has been one of cordiality and mutual respect, equally the relationship between the President, Vice President and the Governor of Kaduna State is also of mutual respect. There are several ongoing government initiatives around which the Vice President and the Kaduna State government have worked on and are still working together, unlike what TheTrentOnline claimed, there was no meeting in the presidency or anywhere where the governor insulted the Vice President nor was there any meeting where the President or Vice President walked out as reported by the news outlet.

This curious “news report” attempts to befuddle the reader and create an impression of confusion. It also tried to belittle without cause, the personalities of the President, the Vice President and the Governor of Kaduna State. Who or what set of individuals will have the motive and the desire to create such impression? I will soon come to address that question. The report claims that the President prefers to have a Northerner as his right hand man, deliberately ignoring the fact that the President has surrounded himself already with several aides and assistants both from the North and from the South, covering all grounds of the nation.

The report also tried to rehash some of the failed campaign talking points deployed before the election, to paint then General Buhari as a religious fanatic. Not only have Nigerians seen through such blatant falsehood, the President has come to be known as a real Pan-Nigerian patriot since his emergence in December 1983 as the Head of States. What is more, in the March 28 presidential elections, a vast majority of Nigerians that voted, validated President Buhari’s nationalist credentials. Retelling the old tales that Buhari would never have appointed a Southerner or a Christina, TheTrentOnline conveniently but questionably ignores the fact that BUhari had always picked Southern Christians as running mates.

This news report that is awash with ill feelings and mischief also claimed that governor El-Rufai forced the hands of the President to appoint Amina Bala Zakari as the acting INEC Chairman. The website made all these claims without providing any scintilla of proof. The so called news report also continued the pure falsehood regarding the alleged exclusion or locking out of the Vice President from Security Council meeting when many Nigerians have since found out, that not only is the Vice President a constitutional member on the Security Council, but that the President personally invited the Vice President to the Security Council meetings, But this harbingers of lies continue to lie through their teeth that the Vice President was excluded. Again, short of quoting anonymous sources, the website provided no proof for it’s wild and outrageous claims.

Why is TheTrentOnline so committed to falsehood, ill-will, and these desperate acts of wickedness? Is it because the owner of the website Aziza Uko Douglas is a paid crony of former President Goodluck Johnattan, who is an active client of her Ziza Media Group? Or could it be that TheTrentOnline is committed to misleading Nigerians about the President and the Vice President, because its owner is a well known ally of Reno Omokri, the infamous Special Assistant to former President Johnattan on New Media.

While we will leave those questions for well meaning Nigerians can read through the lines, it is important to say that those who intend to be considered as fair participants in the public place ought to do so with a sense of fairness, personal integrity, commitment to accuracy and an absolute desire to publish the truth, and not fictions. He who seeks equity must come with clean hands. If Ms. Aziza Uko Douglas wants to show her gratitude to her paymasters, it is all well and good, however, it is unconscionable for her and her website to resort to denigration of the President of Nigeria, his Vice President and the Governor of Kaduna State. Basic human requirements of decency, imposes upon the publisher of TheTrentOnline to respect the truth.  Writing fictions, making outrageous claims, and spewing lies cannot advance the cause of anyone, including individuals who are sponsored to tarnish the respectable image of others, or those of the sponsors themselves. Stop the lies!

Amaechi is clean, Rivers APC insists

Amaechi is clean, Rivers APC insists

Urges President Buhari to ignore Wike’s multi-billion Naira propaganda war against ex-Governor
image001The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has declared the immediate past governor of the State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, clean and untainted by corruption, urging President Muhammadu Buhari to disregard desperate efforts by Chief Nyesom Wike to tarnish Amaechi’s image.

Rivers APC in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday and signed by its State Chairman, Dr. Davis Ibiamu Ikanya said, “We make bold to say that if there is any clean and spotless former governor in Nigeria, that person is Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, CON. Anybody who knows Amaechi well enough would readily testify that he is an honest, sincere but courageous gentleman, a first-class patriot who is ever ready to go the extra mile to see that Nigeria becomes a better place for the present and future generations.”
The party strongly condemned Chief Wike’s desperation to drag Amaechi’s name in the mud, the latest phase of which centres around a sponsored documentary on Amaechi being aired on Africa Independent Television (AIT). “This satanic documentary is only part of Wike’s propaganda war against Amaechi for which the Care-Taker Governor of Rivers State has earmarked billions of naira in his wicked plot to destroy and decimate the person and character of Amaechi. Other propaganda tools planned to be deployed in the war against Amaechi include sponsored publications such as advertorials, columns, editorials and OpEd articles in major international, national and local print media; sponsored personality discussion programmes in the electronic media and sponsored special documentaries for television and radio through independent groups and organisations,” Rivers APC said.
The party added: “This insidious plot by Wike include commissioning a team made up of persons within and outside the state to ‘initiate, formulate and contrive false damaging reports bordering on alleged corrupt practices of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and circulate same to individuals and institutions within Nigeria and abroad with a view to damaging the incorruptible character and rising profile of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in order to blackmail and put pressure on President Buhari not to appoint the former governor into his government. These cooked reports will be sent to the US Embassy, UK High Commission, EU Commission, and several international organisations such as Transparency International, amongst others. The forged reports will also be sent to local and foreign media houses such as the BBC [Hausa Service], Dutch Radio, VOA [Hausa Service], amongst others’ for repeated publication and airing.”
Rivers APC dismissed the allegations against Amaechi as a replication of the documentary terrorism Wike and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deployed against President Muhammadu Buhari during the campaigns for the 2015 general elections.

“It is not surprising that the medium for airing the documentary is the same AIT that angered decent Nigerians with documentaries that disparaged the present President of Nigeria and his family members in a failed bid to make Nigerians not to vote for him. The anti-Amaechi documentary is simply aimed at driving a wedge between the President and the former governor in the hope that President Buhari would be blackmailed into leaving Amaechi out of his government,” Rivers APC said.
It expressed confidence that “just as the blackmail against General Buhari was ignored by Nigerians, who massively voted for him, so, too, the President, having himself been a victim of PDP and AIT’s documentary terrorism, will also discountenance the dirt PDP and AIT are trying so hard to pour on Amaechi and accord him his right of place in the new Nigeria he staked everything, including his life, to achieve.”
“We are happy that Amaechi has through both the immediate past Secretary to the Rivers State Government, George Feyi, and the Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Chamberlain Peterside, and others denied any form of corruption against him by Wike and his cohorts,” Rivers APC said. It reminded President Buhari of his statement during his visit to Rivers State on November 5, 2013, when he described Amaechi as a hero and a great leader. It recalled Buhari as saying: “PDP decided to target some governors that are progressives and we feel will make a difference. We seek your support through Amaechi. I lived in Port Harcourt during my military career. I was a staff officer to Gen Danjuma in 1973. Rivers State has produced great men such as professor Tam David West. 2015 will be another watershed in Nigeria. Amaechi is a great leader. We decided to come together to save Nigeria from misgovernance. We must come together and make Nigeria move forward.
“Amaechi has given Rivers people responsible leadership. The schools he has built will give Rivers children a better tomorrow while women and children stand to benefit from the standard health centers he has built. He has also carried out physical rehabilitation of infrastructures in the state. People like Amaechi should join the APC to move Nigeria forward.”
Rivers APC noted that it is the same Amaechi that solidly stood by Buhari and successfully piloted his campaign that is being disparaged on daily basis by Wike, who is seeking to punish Amaechi for his role in scuttling the re-election bid of Wike’s boss, former President Goodluck Jonathan. “It is our conviction, therefore, that denying Amaechi appointment based on the wicked propaganda by Wike and his cohorts is like believing all the falsehoods against Buhari during the campaigns,” the party said.

Asaba, Delta State: Ebireri refutes bribery allegation against Delta Speaker

Asaba, Delta State:  Ebireri refutes bribery allegation against Delta Speaker

…..Says it is baseless and wicked

By Njamanze Fidel

Mr. Henry Ebireri, the Chief Press Secretary to the Delta State House of Assembly Speaker (Hon. Igbuya), on Thursday rebutted allegation that 23 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in the Delta State House of Assembly contributed a sum of N5million each with which to compromise the panel of judges and receive a favorable judgment against opposition petitioners, describing it as wicked, baseless and reckless.

In a statement issued in Asaba, and sent to The Press, Ebireri described the allegation that the speaker approached Labour Party lawmaker to bring N5million to settle the panel of judges at the House of Assembly tribunal to get justice as political fabrication aimed at undermining the speaker’s integrity.

“The Delta State House of Assembly Speaker is an honest and highly effective speaker. He has built a reputation anchored on integrity over the years.

Stressing that the speaker will not mortgage the country’s democracy, the CPS accused some members of the opposition of putting personal interest above those of the people and the state.

Ebireri who also called the allegations nonsense, appealed to office and money seeking politicians to temper ambition and greed with concern for public good and genuine welfare of the people.

He also appealed to journalists and politicians to protect Igbuya from undue harassment by self-seeking elements whose stock in trade is to hide under the banner of the media to bring down their imaginary or perceived opponents.

Again, Wike set to borrow N10b from Zenith Bank to bribe judges – APC Alleges

Again, Wike set to borrow N10b from Zenith Bank to bribe judges – APC Alleges

Following a spate of recent negative outcomes for the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the various Election Petition Tribunals sitting in Abuja, the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has alleged that the Governor has commenced negotiations to borrow a whopping N10 billion from Zenith Bank PLC for the sole purpose of bribing judges of the Tribunals, Appeal Courts amongst others.

In a press statement signed by Chris Finebone and made available to NF-Reports explained that to date, the Governor has collected a total of about N100 billion comprising  Federal allocations, Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), balance in the Reserve Fund and other sundry sums left in the State’s various accounts with the banks by 29th May.

The statement reads: “The aforementioned sum is exclusive of the earlier N30 billion obtained from banks by the governor since he assumed office. In sum total, about N130 billion has passed through the hands of the governor in 3 months with only a few projects of his predecessor he is completing and some cosmetic asphalting and pothole filling of some streets to show for it. If he borrows additional N10 billion from Zenith Bank as he has already decided to do, Rivers people and our next generation shall have been enslaved further to the tune of N40 billion as loan before the tribunal shows the governor the way out of Government House, Port Harcourt.

“Indeed, the APC is saddened at the carte blanche Nyesom Wike has handed to himself to recklessly borrow in the name of the people without consideration for the present and future generations of Rivers people.

“With the Governor as Commissioner for Works, Due Process Office and Site Engineer all rolled into one, the world can better imagine the big scam going on in Rivers State by a master underhand deal-maker as Governor.

“But most worrisome to the APC is the fact that information available to us indicates that the Governor made up his mind to borrow the N10 billion from Zenith Bank which he will keep exclusively to bribe judges every step of the way especially now that news coming to the Governor from the tribunals sitting in Abuja is not that cheery to his ears.

“We recall that his earlier attempt to approach the Chief Justice of Nigeria [CJN] with a view to compromising the latter ended in fiasco as the APC exposed his antics before he could get close to the revered CJN.

“After that unpalatable incident, we believed [though wrongly] that his disastrous experience with the CJN would have taught him a lesson but from what we now know, Nyesom Wike has learnt nothing from the CJN debacle as he has since devised other means of compromising some of the men of the hallowed realm. Our happiness is that some of the judges place premium on their reputation and name and care little about the filthy lucre the Governor dangles at them.

“The APC will not forget that Nyesom Wike prides in his ability to compromise any living being as long as the person has a price. He boasts of his escapades with men of the judiciary; cavorts with court registrars, clerks and even bailiffs. We are sure he believes that he is the best at his game the way late Pablo Escobar saw himself in exaggerated terms in Colombia as a drug warlord. But there is always one mountain too high to climb for mortal man.

“Therefore, the APC would like to appeal to well-meaning Rivers elders and leaders-of-thought to prevail on Gov. Nyesom Wike against incessant and needless high-interest borrowing he has embarked on for his selfish desires as this has catastrophic outcome for the future of our people and generations yet unborn”.
