Former U.S Mayor Tours Ogoniland, Expresses Shock at Level of Contamination

Posted on July 28, 2016. Filed under: news, Uncategorized | Tags: |

On the invitation of the Ogoni Restoration and Development Foundation, the president of the Trans Atlantic Group and former mayor of Greenevers, Alfred Dixon on Monday, July 25, 2016 visited parts of Ogoniland to assess the extent of oil spills contamination and the level of government preparedness to address the impacts on the Ogoni environment.

Alfred Dixon, a 20 year mayor of Greenevers in North Carolina and president of the Trans Atlantic Group was accompanied on the tour by the publicity secretary of MOSOP, Fegalo Nsuke and the media advisor to the MOSOP president, Bariala Kpalap.

Speaking in Bodo and K-Dere in Ogoniland, Mayor Dixon who was visibly shocked by the level of contamination in Ogoniland expressed concern for the safety of the Ogoni people, the poor handling of the cleanup process which is coming without compensation for years of environmental devastation and nothing in place to create an economic base for the Ogoni people.

Mayor Dixon urged the people to work closely with the authorities to ensure that the interest of the Ogoni people were not shortchanged.

Dixon particularly expressed concern about the poverty in Ogoniland and hoped that the companies involved in the cleanup with be willing to plough back some funds to build an economic base for the Ogoni people.

In their separate responses, the head of the Gberezorkpan chief Micheal Porobumu of Bodo said, the cleanup must be done in collaboration with the local people and community leaders. He noted that the people’s participation will guarantee that the process benefits the Ogoni people. Also speaking, the paramount ruler of Ke-Dere expressed joy over Mr. Dixon’s visit and urged the government to immediately commence the process.

The federal government had in June flagged off the campaign to cleanup Ogoniland. Despite the elaborate flag-off event, nothing had been done to kick-start the process.

None of Our Members Has Defected, We’re Strongly with the APC

None of Our Members Has Defected, We’re Strongly with the APC

…….Rivers Elected Councillors Forum; 8th Legislative Assembly

The attention of the Elected Rivers Councillors Forum has been drawn to the wrong and malicious impression erroneously created in the media that one of our “IMMEDIATE PAST APC COUNCILLOR” of the 8th Legislative Assembly decamped from the APC to PDP in ward 12 khana local government area. This is false, misguided, unfounded and totally unacceptable to us.

We see this as another failed attempt by the PDP to mislead unsuspecting members of the public and supporters of our party alike. We have further uncovered it as part of a grand design by the PDP and desperate politicians to create unnecessary tension and confusion between us and the Leadership of our party – the APC.

For the avoidance of doubt, we can authoritatively confirm that all ‘Immediate’ Past Elected APC councillors of the 8th Legislative Assembly from across the 23 LGAs of the state and khana LGA in particular are still and will ever remain with the APC. “As councillors and grassroot stakeholders elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, We will like to state categorically clear that we’re exceedingly happy and satisfied with the current leadership of our party ably driven by the Honourable Minister of Transportation Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi, the State Chairman of our party Dr Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, DG NIMASA Dr Dakuku Peterside, Sen Magnus Abe and other notable leaders in the state, and that we have no reason whatsoever to leave this great and progressive family we’ve labour so hard to build.

As part of the many reasons we left this lawless PDP party in the first place in 2014, Mr Lucky Yorkina Nee-or we are aware was only involved in a Moto Park Ticketing job in Bori before he was handpicked by the then PDP leadership in the area to be a councillor against popular will of an enlightened people of Ward 18 khana as far back 2012. He is “NOT AN IMMEDIATE PAST APC COUNCILLOR” as was widely published.

The said defection of Mr Luck Nee-or is of no significance to us as a party. We’re aware Mr Lucky was only a Man hungrily trying to save the Bori Moto Park job he had with khana Council and felt he was running out “Luck” When the infamous electoral rape was done on us during the 2015 gubernatorial elections, hence his ill fated defection at that time.

“Here we have a Man that was no longer with the APC in his ward since 2015 but was only forced to make a public show of his inconsequential defection on Saturday July 24th, 2016. We view this as part of another failed antics of a party running shot of ideas on how best they can woo genuine voters and supporters to their fold. Because of the directionlessness and unequitable governance the PDP has provided for the state since inception of Gov Wike’s administration, it has left the party shamefully struggling to encourage her ever depleting ranks daily, as they are aware of there impending defeats whenever the rerun elections is held. This is why we found it needless for the PDP to have made a public show out of nothing.

The Elected Rivers councillors forum of the 8th Legislative Assembly therefore call on the public, the Leadership of our party to disregard this baseless news of the insignificant defection of a Moto Park Ticketing officer already known for working to bring financial returns the PDP led Council authority and his pay masters. We also want to use this opportunity to pledge our unalloyed loyalty to the Leadership of Rivers APC and to assure Rivers people that all our Elected Councillors of the 8th Legislative Assembly especially under the APC in khana LGA and elsewhere in the state are faithfully intact and are all committed to the victory and togetherness of our party.

We’re Greater Together!

Dae (Hon) Stephen Deegbara.

Chairman, Steering Committee.

Killings in Rivers State: Group Call for State Of Emergency

Killings in Rivers State: Group Call for State Of Emergency
A group known as Vanguard for Justice, Equity and Strategy has commended the INEC for carrying forward the date of the planned Rivers re-run election as a result of incessant killings of people in the state.
Speaking in a seminar on Youth violence in Port Harcourt over the weekend, the vice President of the group, Hon. Friday Barida Ledilo said that the degree of insecurity that is being experienced in the state since Gov Wike assumed office a year ago does not call for only shift in election date, but a total DECLARATION OF STATE OF EMERGENCY if the federal government has to salvage what is still remaining on paper as a geographical expression called Rivers State.

“It is no exergeration that we no longer have a state we can call our own. Gov Wike and his self promoted cult-groups have bastardized the comfort of our dear state. Gov Wike should be told in clear terms that what we are suffering today is the seed he planted when he went round the houses of the leaders of known cult groups soliciting for their support while nursing the ambition to be Governor of the Rivers state between 2013-2015”, Hon. Friday Barida Ledilo emphasised.
The Vanguard called on INEC to ensure that until the security situation in Rivers State has returned to normalcy conducting any election in the state should not be contemplated, expressing satisfaction for the shift in the date of 30th July, 2016, describing the decision as a welcome development.

In a related development, a Non-governmental organization in Rivers State, the Rivers Pathfinders has described Rivers State as a theatre of war under Governor Nyesom Wike observing that no meaningful progress can be made as far as Gov Wike continue to take decisions that encourages criminality in the state.
In a press statement in Port Harcourt against the backdrop of the shift in the date of the re-run election, the Public Relation Officer of the Rivers Pathfinders, Engr Abiye Tamuno Sokari – George while condemning Gov Wike for not living up to the expectations of the people in his fight against cult groups, was full of praise for INEC for exercising caution and being sensitive to the cry of the citizens of the state in changing the date of the election in view of the security situation in the state.

The Pathfinders described Wike’s lip service to fighting insecurity in the state as worrisome and annoying, arguing that Gov Wike’s planned amnesty for known cultists amounts to treating the hydra-headed monsters with kids gloves.

“Why should Wike consciously released persons who have been detained for murder because they are members of his GDI and PDP few days to the reschedule re-run election if not for the fact that he will use them to cause more

mayhem in the state “, Engr Abiye Tamuno Sokari – George queried.
Engr Sokari – George expressed happiness that both INEC and the police leadership in Nigeria have ignored Gov Wike’s usual antics of crying wolf after he has perfected wrong doings to give impression that it is his opponents, stressing that it is only in a conducive atmosphere that voters can exercise their franchise. The pathfinders call on the security agencies in the state to investigate the real intention of Gov Wike in granting criminals amnesty few days to the re-run election.

Olose not an aide to Delta Speaker, says Chief Press Secretary

….He is a proud member of APC

The Office of the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, on Friday disowned Mr. John Olose.

“The attention of the Office of the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly has been drawn to a false publication that is making the rounds on social media that Mr. John Olose, arrested for allegedly raping 7-year-old girl, is a political aide to the Right Honourable Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly. Mr. Olose, a former ward 7 councillor in Sapele Local Government Area is a committed member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Mr. John Olose or Onose is not a political aide to the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly” a statement from the Office of the Speaker said.

Signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr. Henry Ebireri, the statement praised Hon Igbuya for appointing honest, dedicated and God fearing individuals as political aides.

“The political aides of the Rt. Hon Speaker are highly responsible people” the statement said.

The statement while describing the news story as misleading accused those behind the story of executing a carefully designed plan to discredit the speaker.

Ebireri appealed to local and foreign journalists to avoid personal bias, distorted facts through wrong and improper emphasis and report relevant facts and significant points of views.

“We thank the good and peace loving people of Delta State who have refused to be hoodwinked by the tissues of lies being woven and dished out by desperate politicians and their sponsors” the statement added.

Elsie Halima Ijorogu-Reed is a political jobber

Posted on July 24, 2016. Filed under: Press Release | Tags: |

Elsie Halima Ijorogu-Reed is a political jobber

The Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Henry Ebireri said Saturday that Elsie Halima Ijorogu-Reed is trying to justify the fact of being sponsored by people who have ulterior political motives by making unfounded allegations.

In a statement in Asaba, Ebireri described Ijorogu – Reed as a blackmailer, political jobber and mentally deranged fellow.

“The attention of the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker has been drawn to an online publication carried in Drum Beat News titled “Aide begs victim not to file sexual harassment against boss.”  When did the media aide beg the victim? Why did it take more than two years to press charges in a country with a highly effective legal system? Why keep her video evidence to herself and continue to make it a subject of media blackmail instead of going to seek redress in court of law if indeed she was harassed?”

Ebireri advised Ijorogu-Reed to desist from blackmailing for money, contract and political appointment.

“I wish to debunk the allegation as contained in the publication. The allegation is spurious without any iota of truth. It is aimed at ridiculing and tarnishing the image of the speaker and the office.”

Osun: Alleged Change “forgery” of NJC rules over Justice Oloyede, a National embarrassment, Satanic – Civil Society

Osun: Alleged Change “forgery” of NJC rules over Justice Oloyede, a National embarrassment, Satanic – Civil Society
…… Set to begin the battle for redress

A group under the aegis of Civil Societies Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun State (CSCEOS) has described the recent alleged forgery of the 2014 Revised National Judicial Council (NJC) Rules over
an incorruptible Judge of Osun State High Court, Justice Olamide Folahanmi Oloyede as national embarrassment and satanic in nature which was a sign of a failed judicial system in a democratic Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the group disclosed that it had concluded arrangement to begin the battle for redress of this injustice and inhuman verdict of the apex body of the bencher (NJC) against the courageous Justice
Folahanmi Oloyede, saying that this injustice could not stand the test of the time because anything build on falsehood would never stand.

Speaking after the emergency meeting of the group to review its activities on the subject matter in the last few days that the NJC through its Acting Director of Information, Mr. Soji Oye handed down
the outcome of its 77th  meetings, the group Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman noted that the group would fight this cause to the end by ensuring that justice was done to the courageous jurist, adding that this singular action of the NJC has brought the great stigma to the nation’s judicial system under Justice Mahmud Muhammed before the international community as the country “when money speaks, the truth is silent”.

This was contained in a Statement issued by the CSCEOS’ Directorate of Media, Research and Strategy which a copy was made available to newsmen on Sunday, explained that the group and other well meaning Nigerians at home and abroad had also concluded to honour the courageous and incorruptible jurist of the season, Justice Olamide Folahanmi Oloyede with a book to be titled; “Justice Oloyede: The
Heroine of Nigeria Judiciary”.

According to the statement: “CSCEOS is not disappointed with the National Judicial council(NJC) doctored and manipulated verdict  on the incorruptible Justice Olamide Folahanmi Oloyede  because  when five of us  were  still before  Justice Ibrahim N. Auta  led Panel of enquiry  on the subject matter, the Nigerian Tribune of  Wednesday 9th of  March,2016 edition reported in  page 16 with a caption that “Rickey Tarfa: NJC to queries Justice Yunusa, set for others probe with a  rider, Report on Osun Judge ready ”  without rebuttal from the National Judicial Council(NJC) till this present moment. Our appearance as a witness last before the Panel on April 22, 2016 and the Counsels for both parties made their final submission to the Auta Panel on June.

“To confirm our disposition that Governor Rauf Aregbesola bought the National Judicial Council (NJC) verdict, Aregbesola and Justice Ibrahim N. Auta were in London  few days ago for inordinate meeting to
review their premeditated action on Justice Olamide Oloyede and this development  is a national embarrassment before the international community for the apex body of the bench in the land to throw the caution into the wind by going against its rules to unjustly recommend compulsorily retirement for incorruptible and courageous jurist at a time majority of Nigeria Judges failed corruption test”.

The statement further reads thus ,”As a result of this, NJC now fraudulently used the newly rule 1(1) and 5 of the 2016 Revised Code of Conduct for Judicial officers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to
sanction incorruptible Justice Olamide Oloyede for the alleged unsubstantiated offences committed in June 2015 while the 2014 National Judicial Council –Judicial discipline Regulations were invoked for Judicial  Officers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and this is a clear violation of NJC rules by attending to the Petition authored by the criminals and diabolical agenda  of NJC led by Justice Mahmud Muhammed and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo with Rauf Aregbesola. We are happy to inform the whole world  that NJC revised its Code of Conduct  in 2016 to nail the  incorruptible Justice Oloyede at all
cost by acting  the script of Yemi Osinbajo as a way  to disrepute the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government before the International  Community as lawless regime.”

“The outcome of National Judicial Council (NJC) report on Justice Oloyede lacks modicum of truth in all ramifications as CSCEOS strongly rejected the manipulation verdict of National Judicial Council (NJC)
on the incorruptible and bold spirit jurist, Justice Folahanmi Oloyede and we see the NJC’s  action as clear conspiracy of bias and miscarriage of Justice by acting on the frivolous Petition Letter of
Osun Civil Societies Coalition (OSCS) signed by the people of questionable characters and Rauf Aregbesola Political Instruments (RAPI), upon our clear evidences in the affidavit before the Auta led-
Panel without counter “Affidavit” from the Petitioners; Waheed Lawal, Sikiru Adebayo Bello and Ismail Uthman.

“In addition, Auta Panel was not considered all the evidences put before it during the trial by arriving at mysterious and satanic decision like that of killing by hanging of renown late Environmentalist, Ken Sarowiwa and eight Ogonis during the reign of despotic rule of late General Sanni Abacha which Justice Auta was the Chairman of the Panel that trying nine (9) Ogonis. But CSCEOS believes that the Almighty God that returned Justice Yerima of Ibadan High Court back to the Nigeria Bench after seven (7) years of illegal retirement by National Judicial Council (NJC) will return Justice Oloyede back to the bench with elevation, because it is now clear that anybody with contrary views on Rauf Aregbesola’s style of governance will be eliminated if such person is not working under Rauf Aregbesola’s government”, it insisted.

“We are using this medium to reiterate and inform the Nigeria People at home and abroad that our group (CSCEOS) has resolute more than aever to use all the sophisticated available legal and democratic means both nationally and internationally to ensure that this manipulated Judgment of National Judicial Council (NJC) is reversed within the shortest possible time. we are also calling on the all lovers of
democracy and natural, constitutional and social justice all over the world, to shift keen attention to Osun State nay Nigeria by rising up to defend and save the courageous and incorruptible woman Judge who took her SACRED PEN to give voice to the downtrodden masses of the State, from the hands of politically motivated National Judicial Council (NJC) and their collaborators including Yemi Osinbajo and Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola”, the group submitted.

Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman,
(Revolutionary Alfa)
Chairman, Civil Societies Coalition For The Emancipation Of Osun State (Csceos)

Hon. Igbuya blames militancy on inadequate benefit of resources from the region

Hon. Igbuya blames militancy on inadequate benefit of resources from the region

…..Praises Ibru, Keshi

……Urges Buhari to dialogue with Niger Delta leaders

The Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya on Sunday spoke on the challenges, gains and distractions in his first one year in office, describing his colleagues as wonderful people.

Igbuya described the first one year as tough.

“Before June 8, 2016, hopes were high. Some of us thought we were going to live in the past. Past Speakers had enormous influence and resources to assist the people. One year gone, the reverse is the case. We met serious recession. Subvention was reduced. In three months, things started getting worse. We started preaching the gospel of belt tightening. My colleagues have seen reasons to adjust. The situation is very bad, very difficult and tough. My colleagues are wonderful people”.

Speaking with local and foreign journalists in Sapele, Igbuya said the House passed a good number of bills.

“We passed a good number of bills. Administratively, we achieved a major feat. We were able to find solution to poor power supply” he said.

Demonstrating maturity and total understanding of what politics should be all about, Igbuya stressed on synergy between the three arms of government.

“Can you achieve result without fund? No legislature can work without fund. We don’t generate revenue. The executive does that. There must be synergy between the three arms of government. People should be talking about synergy, not independence” he said.

Empathizing with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Igbuya said the House would continue to make laws for the good governance of the state.

“I feel for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. I wonder how he intends to achieve some of his dreams. We are looking inward and bringing some laws that can make Delta State generate enough revenue. Okowa means well for the people. He wants to set a standard. Deltans should continue to pray for this administration”

He commended the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state for positioning the party ahead of 2019 general election.

“There is no faction in Delta State PDP. The reconciliation committee is doing very well”

Igbuya rejected the proposed bill to establish and control grazing routes and reserves before the National Assembly.

“The resolutions of the South-South and South-East lawmakers are quite clear. We asked our representatives in the National Assembly to oppose it”

Attributing the defective and harsh socio-economic environment, lack of employment opportunities, environmental degradation, lack of infrastructure, general under-development and inadequate benefit of the resources from the region to militancy in the Niger Delta, Igbuya advised President Muhammadu Buhari to dialogue with the people.

“Mr. President should dialogue with the people. What are the problems? He should listen to the people. Power belongs to the people”

In the interest of peace, harmony and unity of Nigeria, Igbuya urged Buhari to review the ownership structure of oil wells in the country.

“How many South- South people are owners of oil wells in the country? He should allow 65 per cent ownership by the people of the Niger Delta region.

He also spoke on changes in Sapele.

“Sapele is developing. The dualization of Sapele Road from Amukpe roundabout is ongoing.. Beautification exercise is ongoing. We are going to focus on other roads in Sapele. We are trying to expose Sapele to the international community. We are going to make Sapele a major centre for foreign investors and tourists” he said.

Igbuya also described the death of Olorogun Felix Ovudoroye Ibru as a terrible blow to the political class and Nigerians in general.

“Olorogun Felix Ovudoroye Ibru was a man whose name spoke volume. He was imbued with gratitude, generosity, virtue, vision, ideas, spirituality, integrity and humility. He was, without doubt an architect first, before any other thing. It was however on the political turf that he etched his name on marble. Indeed, Senator Ibru left indelible prints on the Nigerian political space. He contributed greatly to the growth of the Nigerian State.

Together with Chief Simeon Ebonka, they formed a strong partnership and set the template for the development of Delta State. He also contributed a lot to the uplifting of the Urhobo nation.

He continued “Ibru death surely deprives the nation of one of its best minds. I however take solace in the fact that the first democratically elected governor of Delta State lived an inspired and fulfilled life by the manner he deployed his professional expertise towards the development of Nigeria. He will definitely be missed by friends, family, associates, colleagues and all those whose lives he positively touched in one way or the other. He will forever be remembered as one who came, and did his bit in a very great and impressive way. He will also be remembered by Nigerians, particularly Deltans as the man who reached the pinnacle of power but refused to be intoxicated by it. I sincerely join the entire family of Senator Ibru, his people at Agbarha-Otor and all patriots of Nigeria in celebrating the life of a great Nigerian citizen. I also bid our great leader and mentor a respectful farewell and a sweet repose.

He described Stephen Keshi as a patriotic Nigerian and a great Deltan.

“His death is a monumental national loss. It is very sad. It is very painful. He was a great footballer and coach. He brought pride to Delta State. He did the nation and the youth proud by standing out in the crowd not only as a skillful player but a coach imbued with maturity. We will definitely miss him”

Rivers APC Hails Buhari Over Niger Delta Peace Moves, Coastal Rail Line Project

….Commends Amaechi for saving N134.4bn for the country

The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has hailed President Muhammadu Buhari over his efforts to restore peace in the Niger Delta and for his determination to actualise the multi-billion-dollar Lagos-Calabar coastal rail-line project.

The party in a statement issued on Thursday in Port Harcourt noted that President Buhari did not only approve dialogue with Niger Delta militants but also recently met with stakeholders from the region in a bid to deepen his peace initiate.

It also expressed joy over the recent formal signing of the contract for the execution of the $11.97 billion coastal rail-line project.

“With these laudable steps, President Buhari has demonstrated his sincere and genuine concern and interest for the peace, emancipation and development of the Niger Delta region. Just as he did in the case of the Ogoni clean-up exercise, President Buhari by these two epochal acts has once more vindicated our earlier declaration that he is a true son of the Niger Delta region. We are reassured that the President will keep his promise to rebuild our region and we wish to appeal to our youths to toe the line of peace and allow the President to develop our region,” Rivers APC said in the statement signed by the State Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya.

The party also commended the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, for once again demonstrating his sagacity and  prudence by saving a whopping sum of N134.4 billion (Using N168 to $1 as it was in 2014 when the contract was first signed) for the nation by negotiating downwards the planned 1,402km coastal rail-line project.

“Rt. Hon. Amaechi has by this singular act demonstrated to the entire world that he utilised the resources of Rivers State prudently and wisely during his tenure as the Governor of Rivers State,” Rivers APC said.

It commended President Buhari for his assurance that funds will not stall or delay the completion of the project. “We therefore urge the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to move to site and commence work as a matter of urgency so that this dream that will improve both transportation and economic activities within this region could be quickly brought to life,” the statement said.

The Movie ‘76: Princewill, from a tycoon, to politician and now film maker

The Movie ‘76: Princewill, from a tycoon, to politician and now film maker

By Nwaorgu Faustinus

1The name Prince Tonye Princewill does not need any introduction to any person who has been a keen observer of the political milieu or terrain in the Niger Delta region and to be more specific the Rivers State political game.

Born into the famous Princewill’s family in Buguma of the ancient Kalabari Kingdom in Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, Tonye who is fondly called ‘TP’ has made a name for himself not only as an entrepreneur, philanthropist, politician but also as a producer of home movie in collaboration with other famous and seasoned movie producers such as Izu Ojukwu and Adonijah Owiriwa.s1

For the sake of time, and because of Prince Tonye Princewill’s entrepreneurship activities as well as his political incursions and philanthropic works are issues that are in the public domain, which can easily be scooped even from the internet, suffice it say that this piece is going to dwell briefly on Princwill’s currently found love – movie making.

1-1Apart from TP’s initial hand in the sponsorship and production of NNENDA and Kajola, another breathtaking, awe-inspiring, suspense-filled, sit-on-the-edge and top-notch movie that is currently trending is ‘76.

‘76 is a romantic movie which tells the story of a young military officer from Nigeria’s Middle Belt region who gets entrapped in a steaming relationship and eventually marries a beautiful student from the South-Eastern part of Nigeria.

The couple blossoming romance is jeopardized by endless military transfers, and they face the ultimate test when news of the soldier’s involvement in a botched coup attempt hits the headlines of newspapers.‎

When the movie was initially screened to select viewers in Lagos early February this year, the satisfaction of the viewers was glaring as the movie brought tears coursing down the chicks of everyone in the hall including one of the star actresses, Rita Dominic.

According to TP, “76 is about Nigeria. My hope is that as people watch this powerful film, they see what I saw, escape from the day to day hassles and then immerse them in how life should be. If we succeed, we will get more youths empowered and that is the ultimate goal. Over 200 cast and crew were used in ‘76. info-2

“76 is a deeply emotional movie, and it resonated deeply with me as I am sure it will do for viewers not just in Nigeria, but around the world.

“The movie’s message presents a number of questions including how we got here, amongst many other issues.

“No doubt, ‘76 is the first movie we did on celluloid, first movie to be shot in an army barracks, first blockbuster in our pack, first movie to do a private screening within post production. First this, first that. But as it was challenging, it has also been very rewarding. To see the child grow into a man leaves a smile on the face. All in all it took us seven years to get here. I am my own worst constructive critic, but I can look back on ‘76 and say, wow, we tried!” TP commented.

cmt-1‘76, directed by award winning director, Izu Ojukwu, is also inspired by events that culminated to and followed the failed 1976 coup d’état, and features real life, archived, actual footage that contributes to the movie’s overall authenticity.remember-1

For Izu Ojukwu, “‘76 is a tale of love in a time post war.”

“The movie deals with a range of issues including the plight of the African woman, and the usually invisible pain of a soldier’s wife,” he said.

“76 highlight the enduring Nigerian cultural values of courage, resilience, patience, loyalty, faith and family and the nation’s ability to surmount all challenges.”

’76 set at the Mokola Army Barrack in the ancient city of Ibandan, Oyo State, the movie features famous Nollywood names including Rita Dominic, Ramsey Nouah, Chidi Mokeme, Ibinabo Fiberesinma, Memry Savanhu, Ada Ofoegbu, Daniel K. Daniel and a host of others.

14The movie which is scheduled to be release officially by the 4th Quarter of this year, promises to be one of the turning points in the movie making industry or rather Nollywood as many awaits its formal release with much expectation.
