Deputy Clerk: Ebireri tackles critics, says Otto is the right man for the job

The Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Henry Ebireri on Thursday advised Deltans not to allow themselves to be held captive by men with unprecedented capacity for lies, mischief and treachery.

In a statement in Asaba, Ebireri described as malicious and devilish the campaign of calumny against the leadership of the assembly.

“Sensationalism is not an admirable feature of excellent journalism. I find the purport of the news story entitled;” Ethnocentric Chauvinism; Delta Legislature Confirms Speaker’s Protégé as Deputy Clerk” as quite embarrassing.”

He accused some individuals in the state of stepping up their covert and overt moves to cause confusion and breakdown of law and order in the state.

“The apparent intention of these individuals is to set the stage for a confrontation in the assembly.”

He alleged that a staff of the assembly recruited layabouts and journalists of questionable character to spread untrue tales against the leadership of the assembly.

“Miscreants have been recruited to insult and blackmail the leadership of the House. These elements have a carefully designed plan to destabilise the state to further their selfish ends.”

He dismissed ethnic propaganda in the appointment of the deputy clerk, saying the honourable members took the decision, which was their constitutional right.

“It is a straight matter. Mr. Aghoghophia Otto is qualified to be appointed to the position of deputy clerk. He is already on grade level 14 and his promotion to grade level 15 was nine months overdue.”

He called on the security agencies to take a closer look at the intents and purposes of these individuals.

“Mr. Aghoghophia Otto is from Ughelli South Local Government Area. There are no blood ties between Otto and the Rt. Hon Speaker.”

He also urged Deltans at large to ignore the shenanigans of these individuals.

‘Papa, Get Out of My House if You Cannot Bring Defectors of Voting Age’ – Emeh Roars

Papa, Get Out of My House if You Cannot Bring Defectors of Voting Age’ – Emeh Roars

It was quite dramatic on Saturday at Chief Glory Emeh’s compound in Port Harcourt when highly infuriated Emeh ordered one Papa, the Youth Chairman of Rumuohia Emohua out of his house for bringing underaged defectors to his house.

Papa had called Chief Emeh on Saturday morning that he was coming from Emohua to his house in Port Harcourt in two hired buses loaded with defectors.

Josiah Whyte (Political Editor) of Independent News Managers (INM) in a report noted that an “elated Emeh pronto called media men who responded almost immediately. By the time the occupants of the two buses alighted, the unofficial SA to the Governor on Defection and Propaganda was disappointed to see boys and girls between the ages of 13 and 15 as persons arranged by Papa for defection in his house. At that point, Chief Emeh said to Papa in Ikwerre Language, “Papa, this is the worst embarrassment I have received in recent times. I told you to go for Sergeant Awuse boys in Rumuche who have been abandoned by their master to present to Gov. Wike. Was that not what we agreed on? Did I not ask you to go to Isiodu, the Chief of Staff’s village to get some boys who were not taken care of by the Chief of Staff?”
“This is what you can bring. Is this not to ridicule me before the Governor? I have already arranged media men. Papa, from today don’t come to my house again. Simple assignment I gave you to do you could not deliver but you want me to give you money every day. Get out of my house.”

All efforts by Papa to demand money from Chief Emeh to pay the bus drivers fell on deaf ears as Emeh refused to release money for the buses. A sympathetic guest of Chief Emeh had to intervene by settling the bus drivers.

Giving his own account, Papa said he was asked to bring people and tag them defectors and get money. He said he was not aware that the people he convinced to follow him to Emeh’s house were not yet of voting age.

Fake Defections: Let Glory Emeh keep fooling Gov. Wike – Rivers APC

Fake Defections: Let Glory Emeh keep fooling Gov. Wike Rivers APC

The Rivers State Chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, said she has taken notice of what appears to be a smart but disingenuous method by Chief Glory Emeh to deceive Gov. Nyesom Wike by presenting faceless, non-existent names and sometimes under-aged hirelings as defecting APC members in return for relevance and huge cash rewards.

In a statement signed by APC’s Spokesman, Mr. Chris Finebone said, “In pursuance to that scheme, Chief Emeh, having returned to the PDP alone, organised some unsuspecting villagers in his community, took  photographs with them and circulated in the media as APC members that defected to the PDP in his LGA.”

The Statement reads: “His ongoing style is to bring in rented individuals from neighbouring states in buses to his expansive compound and making audio and visual images of them for the media as APC defectors. Feeling that he has not been very convincing to Gov. Wike, Chief Emeh put in the media this morning that some  elected APC Councillors have defected to the PDP and would soon write to withdraw their matter in the Appeal Court. This is far from the truth as the name mentioned as leading the defectors is non-existent and not known to anyone.

“However, a cursory scrutiny and various calls from the various LGAs clearly indicate that no such names mentioned as Councillors exist. They are non-existent names churned out by Emeh to convincingly deceive Gov. Wike to ensure fatter payouts and relevance.

“The APC is not surprised that Chief Emeh has fashioned another dimension to political propaganda by creating non-existent defectors. We believe that having found no vacancy in Wike’s media structure, he decided to be a little more creative as usual of him. This type of creativity has become the subject of pride to him in the past and we are sure he will relish his latest efforts so well. However, the APC is not bothered by such antics because they are mere tools to deceive (and Gov. Wike is the victim this time) for a bite at the pie in the custody of the governor rather than anything to really disturb the APC.

“The APC in Rivers State calls on Rivers people and Nigerians to ignore the stage-managed defections of hirelings posing as APC members as choreographed and orchestrated by Chief Emeh. It is a no-brainer by him to deceive Gov. Wike for pecuniary returns. APC members in Rivers State are intact. Those who joined us as moles found no work and have since returned to their familiar company.”

Ugwuanyi Has Proven No Vacancy in Enugu Till 2023 – SEG Declares

Ugwuanyi Has Proven No Vacancy in Enugu Till 2023 – SEG Declares

Through his copious achievements in less than two years in office, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has proven beyond reasonable doubt that there is no vacancy in the state government house come 2019.

So says Save Enugu Group (SEG), a pan-Enugu socio-political movement in a statement by its convener, Chief Willy Ezugwu.

The group noted that it was convinced that with the performance of the former House of Representatives member, now the Executive Governor of Enugu State in his about 22 months in office has shown unequalled development in all parts of the state.

Chief Ezugwu, who is also the Secretary General of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), maintained the “it is not expected that any person from Nsukka zone, and indeed other zones, would contest the governorship in 2019 having seen that Governor Ugwuanyi is working across the state without discrimination.

“Each zone that had its turn to produce the state governor before now, had two terms in office and the turn of Nsukka zone cannot be different.

“But beyond the zonal arrangement that strongly favours Governor Ugwuanyi in 2019, his outstanding performance has made his case for a second term stronger”, SEG stated.

Listing some of the governor’s achievements, the group said that “today, government presence is being felt in rural and sub-urban communities in all Senatorial Districts in the state, which has never happened in the history of Enugu State that infrastructural development would be going on simultaneously across the state. This fact was attested to by the National Chairman of CNPP, Alhaji Balarabe Musa during a visit to the state recently.

“The Governor just flagged off raffle draw for market traders in the state under the Enugu State Traders Empowerment Scheme, one of the policy thrusts of the government with a package of N60 million annually, and the state government releasing N5 million monthly to be won by 100 lucky winners through an open digital raffle draw as to fulfilling his promise to boost the state’s economic activities for the overall interest of the people, especially the ordinary people in the society.

“The government has approved N226, 684, 216. 59 for the completion of Ebonyi River Bridge at Ikem in Isi-Uzo Local Government, and has completed the construction of the Inyaba Link Bridge, that connects about 10 communities in Amagunze, Nkanu East Local Government Area.

In other to maintain even development across the state, the Governor has relocated the Enugu State technical College to its permanent site in Awgu local government, a local government that does not have even a bank.

“The Enugu government has completed several other projects including quality rehabilitation of 9th Mile Corner-Benue State border road, Opi-Nsukka roads, Opi-Obollor road, Egede junction road in Udi local government, among other ongoing intervention on several failed sections of federal roads in the state.

“As part of his economic development agenda, the Ugwuanyi administration performed the historic opening of Enugu free trade zone for rapid development of the state, first ever Nsukka Trade Fair and Sales Exhibition organised through the Nsukka Chamber of Commerce, the flag off Street Light project in Enugu North Senatorial District, the purchase of 10-unit 200KVA generators for effective operation of street lights in Enugu metropolis, and other giant economic development steps.

“On security of lives and property in the state, he has restored confidence in the security apparatus in the state after the lapses that led to the killings in Nimbo communities, resuscitation of the neighbourhood watch through the state to stem the Fulani herdsmen clashes, donation of 85 motorcycles to the 17 Local Government Areas of the state to facilitate access to rural areas by security operatives, just to mention but a few.

“The wonderful thing is that this is happening at a time of national economic downturn. The governor has not allowed recession to determine his pace of work.

“His government is among the three states, namely, Lagos, Rivers and Enugu, which are states paying workers’ salaries and pensions regularly despite daunting economic challenges in the country. Governor Ugwuanyi has been getting commendations from different government and non-governmental groups for his judicious use of lean state resources.

“He is indeed Gburugburu, meaning “all-rounder” when it comes to the delivery of dividend of democracy in Enugu State.

“From his performance so far, we urge every well-meaning Enugu man and women to support Ugwuanyi for a second term, knowing that he has proven that his administration is a government of the people, working for the people”, the group stated.

Osun: Don’t divert second Paris Club Refunds,CSCEOS warns Aregbesola

Posted on March 27, 2017. Filed under: Press Release | Tags: , |

…..says, Aregbesola owes 10months salary, pension arrears

A civil group, the Civil Societies Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun State(CSCEOS) has warned the State governor,Mr. Rauf Aregbesola against diverting the second phase of the Paris Club Refunds accrued to the State by the Federal Government, saying that Mr.Aregbesola led

State Government has been in the habit of diverting the funds accrued to the State since November,2010, which made the State under Aregbesola’s watch to owe workers and retirees alike to the tune of ten(10) months’ salary and pension arrears respectively.

It however, urged the good people of the State, particularly, the workers and retirees alike to monitor the State government on the spending of the Second phase of Paris Club Refunds by ensuring judicious utilization of the funds, calling on the anti-graft agencies in the land to monitor the State government on the funds.

Recently, President Muhammadu Buhari, upon returning to the country, after 49 days of medical vacation in London Hospital, directed the Minister of Finance,Mrs Kemi Adeosun to release the sum of $6.9 billion to the thirty-six(36) States of the Federation and Federal Capital Territory,Abuja, for the payment of backlogs of workers’ salaries, pensions and gratuities to ameliorate the current suffering of the workers and retirees respectively and by extension to the

masses of the country, adding that the State government under Aregbesola would receive the sum of $168million.

This was contained in a signed statement by the CSCEOS’ Chairman,Comrade Adeniyi,Alimi Sulaiman,a copy was made available to Journalists on Monday, urged the State government to use the Paris Club Refunds for the payment of the backlogs of 10months salary and pension

arrears of workers and retirees respectively and as well as backlogs of gratuity from 2008 to 2017,advising the leadership of the Labour Unions in the State to stop betraying the trust and confidence the workers repose in them by fighting for the workers and retirees welfare.

Speaking on the purported letter originated from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offence‎s Commission (ICPC), claiming by the State government to be directed to the Chairman of the organization, declared that the group or any of its members were yet to receive any letter from the anti-graft agency (ICPC), not to talk of contents therein.

Comrade Sulaiman stated that only Aregbesola who was looking for way to distract the attention of the good people of Osun State from monitoring the utilization of the second phase of Paris Club Refunds, was in custody of such letter, challenging the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offence‎s Commission (ICPC), if truly delivered the letter to the Civil group(CSCEOS) to come out with the day, date ,time, hour and the place which the letter was delivered to the either Chairman or any of its member, adding that whenever he received such a letter, the organization would respond appropriately by making the contents and original copy of the letter available to the public.

Speaking further on the recent released of the State debt burden by Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), Abuja, it rejected the exaggeration position of the State government, declaring that the debt burden of the State under Rauf Aregbesola led administration was presently between N300billion to N400billion.

CSCEOS insisted that the NIETI reports did not capture the Commercial banks loan which made Aregbesola to raise alarm sometime ago that the State government would not pay workers’ salaries and pension anymore because Commercial banks refused to grant loan to the State government again, advising Mr. Aregbesola to come out clean on the state of total debt of the State, instead of beating around the bush on the subject matter

Videoshoped clip is lame attempt to blackmail Dr. Mpigi, APC – Rivers APC

Posted on March 23, 2017. Filed under: Press Release |

Videoshoped clip is lame attempt to blackmail Dr. Mpigi, APC Rivers APC

Rivers State Chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, said its attention has been drawn to a video clip being circulated in the social/new media lately by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) purporting same to represent Hon. Dr. Barry Mpigi, member representing Tai/Oyigbo/Eleme Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives addressing an unidentified audience.

The APC in a statement signed by its Spokesman, Chris Finebone said, “It is unfortunate that the PDP and Gov. Nyesom Wike would abandon governance in Rivers State despite several challenges confronting Rivers people to engage in petty melodrama that belong to the waste bin.”

The statement reads: “Port Harcourt and its environs are still ravaged by strange soot believed to be carcinogenic and likely to cause different forms of cancer to residents in the foreseeable future. While residents of the city are helpless about the looming effects of the soot, Gov. Nyesom Wike is busy playing politics and effectively abandoning governance.

“The APC recalls that when the deadly Ebola virus was brought to Port Harcourt in 2014, the then governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi  immediately rolled up his sleeves and got to work in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health and other stakeholders. The result was that the deadly killer disease was effectively caged, quarantined and eliminated. That feat was possible because the then governor placed premium on governance rather than politics.

“As part of the abandonment of governance in preference for politics, Gov. Wike and the PDP have just opened another page in their unholy book of bad politics by contriving and throwing up a worthless video clip in the face of decent Rivers people and Nigerians all in a bid to blackmail one of the shinning lights of APC in Rivers State, Dr. Barry Mpigi.

“The APC recalls how our members shouted ourselves hoarse during the so-called Amnesty Programme by the governor to the effect that the Ogoni axis was being overlooked by the government in what appeared to be a deliberate act to destroy Rivers South-East through violence because of their unflinching support for the APC. Today, our fears have manifested by the wave of wanton killings and destruction ravaging the area every other day.

“It is obvious that the self-guilt the governor and the PDP are feeling for what is happening in Ogoniland gave rise to the present childish attempt to shift blame for the killings and violence to the doorstep of others. The PDP especially their leaders from Rivers South-East and Gov. Nyesom Wike must take responsibility for the mindless carnage going on in Ogoniland. The governor must live up to the oath of office he took to protect the lives and properties of all citizens and residents of Rivers State.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Dr. Barry Mpigi has zero tolerance for cultism and any form of violence whatsoever. A million contrived video clips doctored and produced by PDP evil geniuses cannot taint the impeccable character and person of Dr. Barry Mpigi and the APC.”
