Call Wike to Order, APC Tells Rivers Elders, others

Posted on June 29, 2017. Filed under: Press Release | Tags: , , |

Condemns attacks on Amaechi and wife                                                                            *Describes Senator Uchendu’s victory as the beginning of the restoration of Rivers State

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has appealed to elders, as well as traditional and religious leaders in the State to call Governor Nyesom Wike to order as the unwarranted war against his political benefactor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has crossed the bounds of reason.

Rivers APC made the appeal in a statement signed by the State Chairman, Chief (Dr.) Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, and released on Thursday in Port Harcourt, the State capital.

“We as a political party find it hard to understand why Governor Nyesom Wike is obsessed with disparaging, ridiculing and demonising the person and personality of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, his mentor, benefactor, predecessor and incumbent Minister of Transportation. We have watched with grave concern the ceaseless attacks on the Minister and we find it difficult to stomach such unwarranted onslaught on a peace-loving man who has sacrificed a lot in the building of a modern Rivers State,” Rivers APC said.

The party recalled the failed diabolical and evil strategies deployed by Wike to stop the nomination and confirmation of Amaechi as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “We are all aware of how Wike has tried to no avail to link Amaechi with the $43m of the Ikoyi saga and when the Presidency and court granted him opportunity to defend his claims he became dumb. For Wike to now turn his attention to Amaechi’s family and start attacking the Minister’s wife, Dame Judith Amaechi, is rascality taken too far,” the party said.

The party lamented that, “today, because of the obsession of Wike against Amaechi, he has abandoned governance in Rivers State and instead of finding solutions on how to pay the salaries and pensions of civil servants and pensioners owed for months in the State, he prefers to waste Rivers State money in attending European football matches with his cronies and commissioning of roads and bridges built by Amaechi and building of parks as achievements in a period when other States are busy building crucial and key projects.

While Lagos State Signs $3 billion Agreement with Investors for 3,000 MW; clueless Wike is busy and gleefully signing amnesty for cultists and “repented criminals” to continue with their nefarious acts.

Instead of finding solutions to the menace of insecurity which he created where human beings are beheaded as goats, he is busy on how to decimate the person and personality of Amaechi. Instead of rediscovering the status of Port Harcourt as the garden city of Nigeria, he is busy celebrating Port Harcourt as a city of garbage.

Today, Wike has ran his government aground by running the State without Budgetary provisions as nobody including those in his government have any idea of how the State is funded as Wike runs the State as a Sole-Administrator without Executive Council in a democratic dispensation. Instead of empowering Dr (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo the Rivers State Deputy Governor, he decided to turn her to a Special Aide to his wife, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike, this is sad and unfortunate knowing the pedigree of this great daughter of Rivers State.

The party also said: “As much as we thank God for sustaining the life of the Minister against all these unwarranted attacks, we wish to ask and plead with elders, traditional and religious leaders in Rivers State to intervene and call Governor Wike to order. As a concerned stakeholder in the politics and wellbeing of our dear State, we appeal to all men of good faith both within and outside Rivers State to call this man to order before he runs naked because of his obsession to run down Amaechi, who made him. This call becomes imperative to stop Wike from bringing further shame to Rivers State and her people.

According to the statement, “For Wike to publicly declare that he stopped the Scholarship Scheme initiated and executed by Amaechi for the greatness, progress and future of Rivers State because he feels that the scheme contains the names of Igbos and other tribes exposes Wike as a fellow not suitable to hold public office in Nigeria. In other words, we can also accept it as a fact that why he closed most of the sophisticated primary and secondary schools built by the administration of Amaechi is because non-indigenes were allowed to school in such schools. It can only also said to be true that Wike sacked and refused to pay the 13,000 teachers engaged by the administration of Amaechi because some non-indigenes are among them. This is very sad and unfortunate

Rivers APC attributed Wike’s excesses to the fact that the people of Rivers State never voted for him but he was imposed on them “by the haters of the progress we made while at the helms of affairs in Rivers State, led by the then president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, who was intent of punishing Rivers State, having ceded our oils wells to Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Abia states.”

Finally, The Rivers State Elections Petition Tribunal for National and State Assembly sitting in Abuja Yesterday declared Chief Andrew Uchendu of the APC as duly elected Senator for Rivers East and with this, the party thanked God for granting Senator Andrew Uchendu victory thereby formally removing Senator George Sekibo who has become a huge embarrassment to the State. With this victory and that of other APC candidates, the move to restore Rivers State to the path of greatness, peace and prosperity has kick-started. The party congratulated the Judiciary for once again proved that it is the last hope of the common man. The party commended Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for his steadfastness in restoring APC to glory in the State.

The party urged the people of the State to continue to tolerate Wike for less than two more years “as we trust God to assist us to sack him and enthrone a God-fearing administration in Rivers State come 2019.”

APC unveils Gov. Wike’s fresh plots to tarnish the image of Amaechi

APC unveils Gov. Wike’s fresh plots to tarnish the image of Amaechi

image001The Rivers State Chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, has uncovered an ongoing plot by Gov. Nyesom Wike to tarnish the image of his predecessor and Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi through manifest falsehood soon to be placed in the media.

According to a press statement made available to journalists by Rivers State APC Publicity Secretary, Mr. Chris Finebone noted that “the plot involves extensive forgeries and fabrications of various seemingly sensitive documents to further buttress the lie that the Osborne Road, Ikoyi money confiscated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, belonged to the Minister who obtained same from the coffers of Rivers State Government while he was governor of the State.”

The statement reads: “Initially when Gov. Wike claimed that the Osborne Road money belonged to Rivers State, the EFCC presented an ample opportunity for the governor to step forward and provide evidence and possibly pick up the money but Gov. Wike chickened out until the period granted by the court elapsed. Wike did not take advantage of that window because he had no iota of evidence and he knew it. The present devilish efforts by Gov. Wike to pour tar on Amaechi will go the futile way of the governor’s previous efforts.

“The APC is saddened that more than two years after being sworn in as the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike is still hell-bent on destroying the image of his former boss, benefactor and predecessor. We wish to remind him that his evil plans for the man who gave him a lift in life will continue to fail to his grief.

“We note that instead of aimlessly deceiving himself in his cocoon of self-delusion that he can bring down Amaechi, the APC would like the governor to settle the scores he has with his own dishonorable reputation of lies and deceit.

“We recall that Gov. Wike stood before God and men in a church in Etche to lie when he claimed that the Federal Government was undermining his government by slashing the State’s monthly allocations. He refused to tell the truth that he had earlier pledged a good chunk of the State’s future monthly allocations as collateral security to commercial banks for the huge loans he took at double digit interest rate.

“Like in the case of the federal allocations, the governor recently told another group of Clergymen during a church programme that the Federal Government paid the State only N17 billion as refund on Paris Club Loan and not N34 billion as claimed by the Federal Government. However, evidence made available to the APC by officials of Federal Ministry of Finance indicates that Gov. Nyesom Wike actually signed and collected N34 billion as Paris Club Loan refund for Rivers State.

“The APC is convinced that fearing that his lies are about to be made public, Gov. Wike has decided to raise spurious allegations against the Minister of Transportation being his usual style of diverting attention and shifting the focus of public scrutiny from himself. Wike knows very well that most Nigerians are poorly informed and therefore very gullible. If indeed he had any credible evidence that the Osborne Road money belonged to Amaechi or Rivers State Government, we believe that he would have joyfully approached the EFCC and the court to claim the said money. We believe that the present attempts to raise spurious claims, through concocted documents, is mere smokescreen to cover up the obvious lack of transparent governance by Gov. Wike.

“Finally, the APC calls on Rivers people in particular and Nigerians in general to disregard all forms of fabricated stories that Gov. Nyesom Wike is about floating in the public space through print, electronic and internet media. We will continue to deconstruct, demobilise and discredit the grand deceit that Gov. Nyesom Wike and his mafia government represent.”

Umahi, the New Zik and an Asset to His Generation – NGO

Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dave Nweze Umahi, has been described as a trailblazer, an asset to Nigeria and an example for others in leadership positions at all levels to emulate.

A grassroots NGO, the David Umahi Nweze Akubaraoha Ebonyi Transformation Agenda (DUNAETA), stated this while reacting to Umahi’s emergence as this year’s winner of the coveted Zik’s Prize for Leadership.

DUNAETA in a statement issued in Abakaliki on Tuesday described Umahi as a worthy recipient of the prize conferred on him amid fanfare on June 4, 2017 as the modern Zik.

According to the statement signed by DUNAETA Founder and President, Lady Monica Ada Chidinma Eze, “Governor Umahi eminently deserves the Zik Prize considering his unprecedented feats within two years in office as the Governor of Ebonyi State, which has given hope, not only to the South Easterners but to the entire Nigeria that leadership that can take her out of her present wood and predicament is still possible.”

DUNAETA described Governor Umahi, who doubles as the Chairman of South East Governors Forum, as “an asset to our generation,” adding that “the Zik Prize awarded to him is well deserved in view of his massive investments in security, welfare, infrastructure, agriculture, health and education in Ebonyi State.

“Through Engr. Dave Umahi, Ebonyi State seen in the past as the most backward and undeveloped State in South Eastern Nigeria, has come to acquire a new reputation as the most progressing and progressive state in the region. Umahi’s focus and passion have brought unprecedented transformation and development in all sectors of Ebonyi State. Based on his track record, Umahi has proved himself worthy of being regarded as a reincarnation of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, who was in his life time called The Great Zik of Africa.”

DUNAETA thanked former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, for affirming the feeling and position of Ebonyians when he stated during the Zik Prize ceremony that “Governor Umahi is a true Nigerian; His zeal, energy and character is a true test of a leader. I have seen his exploits and the speed to which he wants to develop Ebonyi.”

DUNETA, Lady Eze said, “believes that with this award, Governor Umahi will be motivated to do more for Ebonyians. We wish him many more awards and recognitions worthy of his stellar performance and appeal to all Ebonyians to rally round him to enable him do even more for our sear State and Country, Nigeria.”

Ignore Wike, Niger Delta leaders tell DSS, police, others

Urge Rivers Governor to apologize

Niger Delta Leaders on Wednesday showered praise on the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, describing his contributions in the transformation of the Nigerian state, particularly Rivers State as outstanding.

“Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi is not just a man of ideas but a man of action. He has clear goals to see Nigeria, particularly Rivers State move to greater heights. He has a true passion for leading” the leaders said.

Rising from a meeting in Abuja, the leaders commended Amaechi for his hard work over the years.

“Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi is extremely hardworking and leads by example.”

In a statement by the Director of Communication, Niger Delta People’s Movement, Mr. Rowland Orlu, the leaders applauded Amaechi, saying “Rivers State would not be where it is today, without his effort.”

The leaders, apart from condemning the pull-him- down campaign of Rivers State Governor, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike against Amaechi, described some actions and statements credited to the governor as an embarrassment to the government and people of Rivers State.

They urged intelligence officials in the country to ignore the Rivers State governor.

Specifically, the leaders said Governor Nyesom Wike’s recent pronouncements on Amaechi, cultism and money found in a Lagos apartment were disconcerting to the good people of the region.

“These are irresponsible and outrageous statements.”

The leaders described Wike as a masquerade dancing in the market square.

“There are better and cultured ways of resolving disputes other than media war.”

Described as a hardworking man and a champion of development, the leaders praised the former Rivers State governor for executing a tremendous process of transformation in the Ministry of Transportation.

“The Ministry of Transportation is now a hive of activity and all its officials and other stakeholders are being spurred to action by its energetic Minister, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi.”

Delta leaders predict bright future for Igbuya

Delta leaders on Thursday described Rt. Hon Monday Ovwigho Igbuya as an attentive and steadfast leader.

They also commended him for the growth of democracy and good governance in the state.

“Rt. Hon Igbuya is an outstanding man. As a presiding officer, the Delta State House of Assembly gave priority to the welfare of the people, rapid industrialization of the state, resource generation, financial management, accountability and transparency in government.”

The Delta State House of Assembly also gave education face lift , made impact in such areas like chieftaincy matters, community development and justice, demonstrated commitment to securing the people, recognised that health care is a fundamental obligation of any responsible government,  took  positive steps to place sufficient emphasis on rural development, agitated for independence, addressed the sharp drop in the revenue accruable to the Federation Account and its effect on the funds available to the State especially for the development of infrastructure” they said.

The leaders who met in Agbor, described Igbuya as a gem, a curative balm and a uniting factor.

A statement issued by the Chairman of Delta State Political Leaders Forum, Dr. Maxwell Nwokolo commended Igbuya for giving purposeful leadership to the Delta State House of Assembly and using the power of the office of the speaker to promote the interests of the state.

“It might be necessary to put on record some specific legislative achievements which the Delta State House of Assembly recorded under the leadership of Igbuya. The Sixth Assembly in its first year recorded modest achievements. It received a total of twenty-three bills (23), out of which, ten (10) were passed into law. A total of fifty-three (53) motions were received, fifty two (52) approved while eighteen (18) reports were received and adopted. In the second year, the House received a total of 28 bills, out of this number, 8 were Executive Bills. The members’ bills in the House were 20. The House passed a total of 12 Bills which were transmitted to the executive for assent.”

“If there is anybody to be credited with the growing stability and unity of the state, it is Igbuya. He is a man of wisdom and dedication. He is a passionate advocate for his constituents, a voice for the underdog, a respected politician and a sincere confidant to those closest to him’ the leaders said.

They also heaped praises on Igbuya for promoting democracy, rule of law and raising his voice for the down- trodden segments of the society.

“Rt. Hon Igbuya is a study in consummate humanism, stoicism, integrity, generosity and selflessness. He stands for justice and peace. He is a great democrat, a committed federalist and a genuine political worker. He is respected in the state for his leadership and honesty.” they said.

“Rt. Hon. Igbuya has been listening to the grassroots. He brought prestige to the Okpe nation and developed a close affinity with political leaders within and outside the state.”

The leaders lauded Igbuya for his integrity and empowerment of the youths, women and elders in the state.

“Igbuya is an honest and highly effective speaker. He is humble and friendly to the core. He is honest, kind and has strong moral principles.  He has built a reputation anchored on integrity over the years. We are satisfied with Igbuya” the leaders said.

“This world, as we know, is a type of stage where actors go and come. All of us are mortals and once we, by luck or accident, get into any position of authority, we should remember that, one day, we are leaving that position, whether we like it or not. For that reason, therefore those of us in various positions of power and authority should act our part well. Let us continue to see our presence here as a unique opportunity for service and not an opportunity for privilege. Let us continue to serve Delta State with all our hearts, all our heads and all our hands” the statement added.

The Ogoni Cleanup and a Sense of Decency

Posted on June 8, 2017. Filed under: Opinion |

The Ogoni Cleanup and a Sense of Decency

Ogoni has become Nigeria’s latest image laundering parameter. At every opportunity, the country will announce it has launched the cleanup of Ogoniland – a project that is gradually degenerating to become another victim of Nigeria’s well acknowledged state corruption.

The progress made on the Ogoni cleanup is known only to the government. To many, a presidential approval of governing structures amount to progress though the people of Ogoni still cannot have access to safe drinking water, not to talk of electricity, basic schools and roads.

When the government cannot find an excuse for delaying the restoration of the Ogoni environment, it inaugurates boards to mark years of delays, disappointments and failures.

We have just passed one year mark after the very costly, elaborate and seemingly deceptive launch of the cleanup in Bodo and just two months away to mark one year after the inauguration of the governing structures.

What has been achieved within the period? Not even the construction of the laboratory (Integrated Soil Management Center) which should support the geological investigations has commenced. Not a single water project has been fixed by HYPREP to provide water for the people. What we rather see are desperate attempts by government agencies like HYPREP to give a false impression about the real situation. But the fact is that Ogoni still drinks poisoned water and remains polluted and these cannot be changed by internal processes and media promotions.

So it makes no sense that billions of public funds are being spent on internal processes when the people whose lives are in danger are not attended to.

I see what Ogoni is passing through in Nigeria as the worst degenerative experience of humanity. In less than one year, these same people will return to Ogoniland seeking votes from people whose humanity and dignity have been violated by their own government, people who are not sure of their tomorrow, people who certainly will die of terminal diseases like cancer, people whose lives have become nightmares, whose resources have been ruthlessly exploited to build Abuja, Lagos and make corrupt public administrators super rich.

In the midst of all these, one Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) is busy canvassing to resume oil production in Ogoniland. What a shame!

We are tired of these gimmicks and we want action on the cleanup, We want Nigeria to respect us as Ogoni people and treat us as humans with rights. We also want the NPDC to stay away from Ogoniland.

Nigeria and Shell should as a matter of urgency, clean up their mess in Ogoniland and respect our rights to live a dignified life.

The author, Fegalo Nsuke is the Publicity Secretary of The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) He wrote from Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

Obuah Warns Against Indiscriminate Disposal of Waste after Stipulated Period

Posted on June 8, 2017. Filed under: Press Release | Tags: |

Obuah Warns Against Indiscriminate Disposal of Waste after Stipulated Period

Irked by the sudden appearance of waste at certain areas in Port Harcourt, the State capital, the Sole Administrator, Rivers State Waste Management Agency, RIWAMA, Bro Felix Obuah, has again warned both residents and business operators in the State to desist from dumping their wastes after the approved period.

The RIWAMA Sole Administrator reiterated that the stipulated time for disposing waste remains from 7pm to 12 mid-night daily, noting that this order has been violated, as people particularly, Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor residents and environs, now dispose their wastes indiscriminately and without adherence to the approved time, thereby altering operational hours of dumping and charting away of refuse.

He cautioned all those involved in the act and appealed to them to take this order seriously, as the relevant laws will spare no one caught dumping waste indiscriminately and outside stipulated time of 7pm – 12midnight.

He further appealed that all generated wastes should be disposed of appropriately at government approved receptacles or other recommended areas, calling on all Service Providers to also ensure they collect waste from the receptacles within the period allowed by the law.

While frowning at the attitude of traders, motorists and some commuters throwing waste around indiscriminately, Bro Obuah again warned that the Agency will intensify checks on their activities and would deal decisively with defaulters, reiterating the zero tolerance by the Rivers State government on reckless dumping of waste, even as efforts are stepped up to ensure the State fully regains its status with regard to cleanliness and healthiness of the people and the environment.
