Rivers APC: Party Chieftain Eze Frowns at Abe’s Pass to Contest Primary

Posted on September 25, 2018. Filed under: Press Release |

* Urges APC Guber Delegates to Save APC and vote Against Abe during the 29th Guber Primary

*Reassures Nigerians that Wike /Abe’s devious plot against Amaechi will be an excerise in futility

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has kicked against the screening of Senator Magnus Abe to contest the party’s governorship primary in Rivers State.

Eze, who expressed his displeasure in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, wondered the criteria used in screening the Senator, who had severally been involved in what he described as grievous anti-party activities, including his current alliance with Governor Nyesom Wike to sabotage the party’s fortunes.

It would be recalled that the National Secretariat of the party had screened Senator Abe and certified him as qualified to participate in the party’s governorship primary, which is scheduled for September 29, 2018.

But Eze faulted the party’s decision, noting that the Senator had been working hand in glove with the Governor of Rivers state, a leading People’s Democratic Party (PDP) figure to undermine the APC in the state, citing the institution of legal matters against the party, attempt at pulling down the party structure in the State by setting up a parallel party Secretariat in the State.

Eze reiterated that Abe apart from establishing an illegal party structure in Rivers State was a party to the formation of the Reformed APC that claimed to be a faction of the mainstream of APC.

Eze who vowed that he will not keep quiet on the inglorious and infamous path that Abe has toed to destroy a party that has done much in sustaining him politically in Nigeria.

“Most of Abe’s associates in the Reformed APC that includes Barry Mpigi,  Senate President Saraki,  Speaker of House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara, Governor Tambwual of Sokoto State,  Senator Kwankwaso have all formally joined Governor Wike in PDP while they asked Abe to stay back in APC to do the dirty task of destroying the party.

“Not minding all that Abe have done to destroy APC by joining forces with Wike and other external forces to carry out his dastard acts,  Eze claims that Abe is not relenting to ensure that the leader of the party in South -.South, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is destroyed.

“Not satisfied with all the above he has joined forces with Governor Wike to  connive and conspire to disparage and defame the Minister of Transportation and Director General of Buhari /Osibanjo Presidential Campaign organisation,  Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi”, he said.

According to Eze,  “Abe and Wike are plotting to use the  former cabinet members of Amaechi when he was Governor of Rivers State to tell fake, concocted and distorted stories to the media that are meant to denigrate him, impugn his unblemished integrity and paint a very terrible image of him to members of the public”, he said.

Eze, who stated that God who sustained Amaechi when the duo plotted to blackmail him before the Senate, so that he would not be screened as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, will surely shame the duo in their latest plot.

Eze wonders how those pushing for Abe to fly the flag of APC in order to rubbish Amaechi will think that such devious plot will work.

“But let me reiterate that should these enemies of Rivers State succeed in making Abe the gubernatorial candidate of APC,  I will mobilise not less than one million true lovers of Rivers State to Aso Rock on 5th October 2018 to protest against such an evil plot though I know that the APC delegates in Rivers State  will not allow such an evil plot to see the light of the day”, he said.

2019: My chances are bright, says Olaitan Williams

Posted on September 25, 2018. Filed under: Press Release |

Scores Buhari, Ambode, Badru low

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives hopeful, Violet Olaitan Williams on Sunday presented a detailed report to Lagos Island leaders on the poor performance of the lawmaker representing Lagos Island Constituency 1, Hon Enitan Dolapo Badru.

She also engaged the leaders with a larger vision for job creation to reduce unemployment in Lagos State.

“Well people have different ideas to positions. Firstly, the incumbent is not from my constituency but a product of the leader says (Baba Sope). He is not a man of the people. Does he know the history of this community? The answer is no. He is a product of godfatherism. He hasn’t done anything. He is a failure” she said.

Williams, in an hour long meeting with the political leaders on Sunday, accused the lawmaker of contributing to stagnation of the area.

“There is nothing to show for the many years in the House of Representatives.  It is not about summer school but empowerment. His constituency office is here. Has he ever been there? You won’t blame him much if his impact is so negligible. I’m an indigene of the community. I know the people and I know our challenges, hence my maritime education advocacy. Badru represents stagnation” she said.

Williams, a stakeholder in the maritime sector, stated that the PDP was not dead in Lagos State contrary to the belief in some quarters.

“To Salvador, PDP is dead because he has left. He didn’t go with fifteen thousand people from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). It is just a figment of his imagination. From each local government, we have minimum of two aspirants jostling for one seat. How can you now say PDP is dead? Our leaders are intact. APC has so many factions.”

Olaitan who defected to PDP with Engineer Funsho Williams promised to improve the coastal locations in Lagos Island.

“Nigeria is a maritime nation. Lagos state is a maritime hub. Why should we be talking of unemployment? I’ll eradicate joblessness amongst our teeming youths by advocating the use of our water ways effectively, creating cottage industries for our women and encouraging tourism. Since the global community is talking entrepreneurial skills, boat building will be encouraged. I’ll engage the youths to careers of the 21st century that will eradicate the menace of the area boys.”

Williams said her chances of winning in the 2019 election in Lagos Island Constituency 1 remain very bright.

“My chances of winning the House of Representatives election in 2019 are bight. I am not a stranger here. This is the first time a native of the community, a grassroots politician and a mother will be offering herself to bring the past glories of the famous Olowogbowo back to her constituents. I contested in 2007 and came second in PDP primaries. So this time around, I know I’ve gathered enough skills to improve the lot of my people.”

She urged the leaders to support her ambition.

“It’s about genuine service to the community. They should know that it’s a four year mortgage if they don’t get it right and if they get it right, it will transform their lives. They should vote wisely for a better change and representation where prosperity will come into the community.

Williams also spoke about the performance of President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Akinwunmi Ambode

“Governor Akinwunmi Ambode must improve the waste management services we have now. We’ve never had it this bad. It is near epidemic state. The trailer menace has crippled businesses and the bridges are becoming weak by the day. These two problems were addressed by Babatunde Fashola with promptness He is just after amassing wealth at the expense of the masses.”

“President Muhammadu Buhari is living in past glory of Mr. No Nonsense. Sycophants are taking advantage of him. In the civil service rules, 65yrs is the statutory retirement age. Why is he clinging to power like most African leaders when we have the younger generation that can turn around the economy of the nation? I personally feel pained that a maritime nation with so many opportunities is talking about recession and unemployment. Our GDP should be one of the best because be it solid minerals, agricultural products and good weather. We are richly endowed but we lack strong, effective institutions that can curb the excesses of our people. The wrong person is in the right office all because of the Nigerian factor. We need proactive, dynamic youths that can compete with the global younger generation presidents.”

“We are looking at ideas and representation. It is not about political party. It is about the individual and the development of the community” she added.

As We Move Towards the Rivers State Government House

As We Move Towards the Rivers State Government House

By: Soalabo W. West, Esq.

Barr.West3My public declaration to vie for the high office of Governor of Rivers State on the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has elicited diverse reactions from indigenes and residents of the State. Many Nigerians from different parts of the country have also expressed their views on my aspiration.

No matter the leanings of the opinions that were expressed, my willingness to offer my name for nomination for the position of Governor of Rivers State, has, nonetheless, broadened the ambits of the political discourse within and outside the State. This I believe is good for the PDP and our polity, in general.

For the records, I have been a loyal member of the PDP for over 10 years and even when the party was afflicted by a gale of defections, I remained in the PDP, hoping that the principle of rotational zoning entrenched in the constitution of the party by the elders and founders of the party will continue to guide the leadership of the party in matters relating to elective positions. Alas, this is not the case and I am now hard put to say that, due to the whirlpool of existing political exigencies, I will no longer be aspiring to actualise my governorship ambition under the aegis of the PDP.

In announcing my interest for the governorship position under the aegis of the PDP, I emphasised that my candidature was inspired by the crying need to allow the riverine communities of Rivers State to produce the Governor of the State in 2019. I don’t think that I was asking for too much from the State and National leadership of the PDP as the upland area of the State has produced all the Governors elected on the platform of the PDP since the advent of civilian elective participatory democracy in 1999.

My argument remains that by 2019 the upland communities would have controlled the governorship of Rivers State for 20 years. I am convinced that my request that an indigene of the riverine part of the State, should of necessity be availed the opportunity to govern the State is in tune with the democratic ideals of equity, justice and fairness.

Sadly, I have come to realise that the leadership of the party in the State and at the National level of the PDP may never be prepared for an indigene of the State from the riverine area to govern Rivers State in 2019.

The reason that is being bandied around is that the incumbent Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, an Ikwerre man who also took over from former Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, also from the Ikwerre ethnic stock, is doing well and as such should be allowed to continue for a second term of four years, up to 2023 does not trump the existential imperatives of the riverine people of the State.

I have written to the leadership of the party at the State and National, asking for a commitment that the party will, in pursuance of the provisions of the PDP constitution, zone the Governorship position of the party, in 2023, to the riverine communities. But that commitment has not been made.

Let me say this: Rivers State has all that is required to bring growth and development to any modern state. We have excellent human resources, very fertile land, two seaports, huge hydrocarbon deposits, an international airport, miles of beaches caressing the Atlantic and so much more.

We’ve got great plans for Rivers State and believe that she can be better. We will break her away from the shackles of underachievement and usher in a new era of peace and progress where everyone can fulfill their potentials with the government providing the enabling environment.

What if we could plan most future developments in our State and pass laws to ensure that we operate substantially within the ambits of those plans? Be they educational, infrastructural, entrepreneurial, cities development, waste management or even multiyear budget plans.

What if we could employ 300-500 new professionals incrementally- lawyers, doctors, nurses, teachers, scientists, administrators, engineers, surveyors, agricultural extension services providers, etc- to work and reside in each local government area of Rivers State? Providing them staff quarters and other incentives to ensure they stay and pursue their lives there?

What if we could get manufacturers and service providers back to Trans Amadi Industrial Estate and build new industrial parks in Abonnema, Ahoada, Bori, Degema, Omoku, Oyigbo, Etche or Omuma and engender improved security in the State together with facilities (including a short emergency number like 112) to cater to all emergencies?

What if we could deploy a statewide fibre optics backbone in partnership with telecoms service providers to deliver cheaper internet bandwidth and support the development of tech innovation and incubation hubs to provide a springboard for our teaming youths, startups and small businesses to leapfrog into a successful future?

What if we could enhance school sports, build centers of sporting excellence in each of our Local Government headquarters in partnership with the Federal Government, multinational companies, international sporting agencies and businesses together with organizing regular competitions between the different LGAs?

What if we could reclaim lands swallowed up by sea rises and clean up our polluted lands, swamps, creeks and seas, then introduce lost land and marine resources using an integrated partnership funding model to harness the participation of the federal government and international multilateral agencies and multinational companies working in our communities?

What if we could enhance our existing healthcare systems to drastically reduce HIV/AIDS, malaria, maternal, neonatal and infant mortality rates and deliver at least 2 world class tertiary healthcare institutions one of which can deal with various body organ challenges and, above all, cancer?

These are a few of the things that we have planned to do and which will be greatly beneficial to Rivers State and all our people.

Although, I will no longer be vying for the position of Governor of our State on the platform of the PDP, I am still very interested in the governorship race of Rivers State and in the coming days will, after due consultations, inform on the new direction that God has led us to.

Importantly, I am convinced that our developmental ideas will usher in a new paradigm of peace and progress to Rivers State anchored on equity, justice and fairness. So in the spirit of oneness, collective growth and development of our State, all are allowed to utilize any of our developmental models and harness our ideas for the common good of our people. After all we are striving for a greater Rivers State first!

Eze Replies Abe on “Nobody can stop my governorship ambition”

Posted on September 19, 2018. Filed under: Press Release |

….. Lists Eleven reasons how Abe stopped his gubernatorial ambition

…..Exonerates Amaechi from his political woes

All Progressives Congress chieftain, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze a close associate and ally of Senator Magnus Ngei Abe the Senator representing Rivers South East senatorial zone in the National Assembly and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA)) has described the recent statement credited to the Distinguished Senator that nobody can stop his governorship ambition as reckless, untoward, unfortunate and undemocratic.

Eze explained that “by Abe making such unguided statement it brings out the undemocratic nature of the Senator that even the electorates or party members lack the power to stop him from his gubernatorial ambition. This explains why the Senator have resisted and discarded every normal democratic steps taken by both APC as a party and her leadership to institute and enrich democracy in the party insisting not minding all his inadequacies that APC can’t survive unless he (Abe)  flies her flag during the 2019 general elections. This hard stance is not only unacceptable, unfortunate but will not be tolerated by any sound democratic institution like APC.”

According to Chief Eze erstwhile National Publicity Secretary (NPS) of the defunct New PDP (nPDP) and a foundation member of APC in a press statement circulated to the media and general public on Wednesday highlighted that Abe as a citizen of Nigeria is well qualified to contest for any electoral position in the country but to go about it as if it is a do or die affair is what will make it impossible for such a dream to be realized through APC during the 2019 general elections.

Eze counseled his good friend, Senator Abe to stop blaming his mentor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transportation as the force behind his political woes but rather blame himself for whatever it is he is currently going through in his political life, adding that “it is a fact that Amaechi’s impact in the  political life of Abe can’t be overemphasized which made the Distinguished Senator to proudly state that, “Amaechi have invested so much in my political career that today I have  become the highest political investment of Amaechi in Nigeria.”

“It beats my imagination therefore that Abe who knows what Amaechi has invested in him politically will  still constitute himself as a stumbling block to APC dislodging Governor Wike whose tenure as the Governor of Rivers State has become anathema and a curse to the State” Eze reiterated.

The APC chieftain listed some of the grievous mistakes Abe made that makes his dream of governing Rivers State through APC as elusive:

  1. Senator Abe’s deplorable strategy of dropping the names of leaders of the party, including those of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhamnadu Buhari, the National Leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Aisha Buhari the Nigeria’s First lady and the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as the people behind his candidature to deceive his innocent followers that he is the candidate to beat, as far as the APC ticket is concerned in River state.
  1. Aligning himself with Governor Wike and other external forces to divide, decimate and undermine the progressive vision and mission of APC in Rivers State.
  1. Assembling some uncouth Media influencers to constantly abuse and insult the Leader of the party in the State on daily basis.

Eze further noted that other unpardonable mistakes made by the Senator that will rob him of the APC ticket Includes:

  1. Starting a fight with his brother and friend, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, who loves him so much and has invested so much into his (Abe’s) political career
  1. To refuse to participate in the Congresses of APC in Rivers State which have ruled him out of contention for those who are to fly the flags of APC come 2019 no matter whatever strategy he may decide to adopt.
  1. To allow Governor Wike to influence most of his recent political moves aimed at decimating the structure of the party in the state.
  1. Setting up of an illegal APC Structure in Rivers State, knowing that there is a duly constituted party structure under the chairmanship of Ojukaye Amaechree.
  1. Distancing himself from the activities of the party since the beginning of 2018, and aligning himself with the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and other PDP members in the National Assembly to frustrate the APC led Federal Government policies and delaying the passage of the Budget on time.
  1. Setting up of an illegal APC secretariat in Rivers State without following due process of conducting Congresses
  1. Taken the party to court without exploring the provisions of constitution the party
  1. Parading himself as an APC member while working for the reelection of Governor Wike a PDP Chieftain to the deteriment of his assumed political party.

Eze pleaded with his good friend to retrace his steps and rejoin the party so that collectively APC  will realize the dream of the people of Rivers State by dislodging Governor Wike accordingly.

Lagos East Seat not for Eaglet – Former Secretary to State Government

Posted on September 16, 2018. Filed under: Press Release |

……Says Ashafa and Osinowo are not comparable

A former Secretary to Lagos State Government, Chief Olorunfunmi Basorun, on Sunday described the representative of Lagos East, Senator Gbenga Ashafa as the district’s greatest ever senator in the Fourth Republic.

“Senator Gbenga Ashafa is the best in Lagos East Senatorial district. There have been other senators like Omoba Kingsley Adeseye Ogunlewe and Adeleke Olurunnimbe Mamora before Ashafa came in. We cannot physically point out what they did in terms of attracting projects to the area or coming near the people and making them to have the dividend of democracy. Ashafa has been doing this” he said.

Basorun, pioneer chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State and former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Director cited railway modernization projects in Nigeria, rehabilitation of the Ikorodu-Shagamu Highway, facilitation of water and irrigation projects within the district, installation of transformers in the rural areas, distribution of entrepreneurial empowerment tools, several medical outreach programmes across the district, supporting senior adults, widows and youths as areas where Ashafa performed excellently.

“Senator Gbenga Ashafa has performed on the floor of the House in terms of motions and bills. He has been a pillar of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the senate. He is a pillar of support for the party and the government. We can’t send Eaglet to the senate. We need Ashafa to be in the senate; to stand and make sure that the right person leads the senate, the right environment that will make Buhari succeed in his second term. We need people like him. The Lagos East Seat is not just for anybody.”

“I do not believe Osinowo is in any way in a comparable position to Ashafa” he told journalists in Ikorodu.

“They say somebody is doing fourth term in Lagos State House of Assembly. That does not mean experience. I was reading in the media yesterday, somebody was comparing Ashafa and Sikiru. I have nothing against Osinowo. You cannot compare the two. Ashafa is an accomplished graduate, a civil servant in the state who rose to the position of permanent secretary before retiring. He has been showing it. They call him Mr. Railway in the senate. How can anybody say we collected money? Which money? Our training is not collecting money but saying thank you to those that have done well by asking them to continue.”

Ashafa is understood to have the backing of the leaders of the APC in Lagos State and members within the Lagos East Senatorial District.

“All the leaders without exception assembled on March 1 at Epe and adopted the current governor of the state for a second term. After that ceremony, the arrowheads met again, considered Ashafa’s performance and approved another term for him. There was a second meeting. We met under the leadership of our senatorial leader, Otunba Bashura Alebiosu and formally adopted Ashafa for another term. Just last week, one Mr. Sikiru Osinowo, a four term member of the Lagos State House of Assembly said he wants to run. I do not see anything wrong in it. He can run. I have been in this game since 1963. I was brought up by Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Senator Ayo Fasanmi. We are not taught to run left, right or back because somebody wants to occupy a position. We are taught to have reasons for following someone. We must be consistent in doing so. Ashafa is not being followed in this particular case for nothing. He has attracted projects to this small community.”

He praised Ashafa for his impressive and resourceful delivery of the mandate of the district, particularly his contributions towards the growth of Igbogbo, Ijede, Imota and other areas in the senatorial district.

“Ashafa attracted to Igbogbo an information technology centre. He brought his friend, Rotarian Dr. Adewale Lateef Ogunbadejo to locate a vocational training centre. Over 300 people are being trained now. How can they say I have no reason to support Ashafa?

He urged aspirants in Lagos State to yield to people’s yearning.

“The decision of the leaders is not to impose Ashafa on anybody. We are going to do direct primaries. Ashafa is going to benefit from what he has done. Three days ago, his latest rival was here. My staff told me that one of those who came with Osinowo from Kosofe brought out his phone and showed them photographs of a machine given to him by Ashafa. The machine produces six blocks at a time. This is the story in the senatorial district. I know the number of people who took note from us to collect school fees for their children. Those who have benefited will vote Ashafa, except ingrate.”

Chief Basorun said a particular aspirant appeared to be increasingly violent.

“Some aspirants are carrying thugs about. They should stop it.”

“The PDP is zero in Lagos State. I am in a party that is doing well in Lagos State. Buhari is doing well. He will win in 2019. He should institute a system to redistribute Nigeria’s income. It is too lopsided” he added.

Rivers PDP Condoles State Party Secretary Over Mom’s Death

Posted on September 16, 2018. Filed under: Press Release |

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commiserated with the family of the State Secretary of the party, Mr Samuel Okpoko on the demise of his mother, late Mrs. Patience Aduko Johnson Okpoko who passed on August 16, 2018, at the age of 73.

State Chairman of the Party, Bro Felix Obuah who led a delegation of the State Working Committee of the Party to the Okpoko family in Port Harcourt on Thursday, urged the family to take heart as death is a necessary end for all mortals.

Bro. Obuah said the party deemed it expedient to visit the State PDP Secretary as a member of one PDP large family, adding that whatsoever befalls a member affects every other member.

The State PDP Chairman urged Mr. Okpoko to take solace in the fact that his late mother lived above the biblical age of three scores and further urged him to be comforted by the fact that his mother lived and left a good legacy for those she left behind.

He assured that the party would stand by him in this moment of grief and further pledged to give him all the support he needed to give her a befitting burial.

In his response, the State PDP Secretary, Samuel Okpoko expressed gratitude to Bro. Obuah and the State Working Committee for the visit, adding that words cannot sufficiently express how he felt by their words of consolation.

“From the bottom of my heart, I appreciate your show of love.  This visit is coming for the second time as the State Working Committee had visited us just two days after the death of my mother.  May God visit the party and our dynamic Chairman in a special way”, he prayed.

“I want to particularly thank our Chairman, Bro. Felix Obuah who personally prayed for my mother shortly before her demise.  I count it an honour and commend his fatherly disposition towards us all”, he said.

Signed:

Jerry Needam

Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to

State PDP Chairman, Bro. Felix Obuah.

APC has decided on Lagos East Candidate – Ex-Deputy Governor

Posted on September 14, 2018. Filed under: Press Release |

Urges Sikiru Osinowo to forget senatorial ambition

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has endorsed Senator Gbenga Ashafa for another term, former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye told journalists Thursday morning.

The Lagos East senatorial race, which will be decided next year, has been dominated by Ashafa.

“They came with too large a crowd to my house. I told them other aspirants have been here and they came quietly and left quietly. I listened to Pepperito and also spoke my mind to him and his entourage for the interest of the APC in the state.

The former deputy governor voiced his opposition to the four term lawmaker representing Kosofe Constituency 1, Hon Sikiru Adebayo, urging him to forget his senatorial ambition.

“Nobody can compel me to endorse him. It is not possible. I am a straightforward person. I was away from Nigeria. A particular candidate was endorsed by the leadership that I belong to in 2017. When I returned in 2018, another meeting was called where that endorsement was reaffirmed.”

He said it would be difficult for the party to back aspirants from Ikorodu, Kosofe, Somolu and Epe.

“We have people from Ikorodu that are contesting but the party has decided. It is not possible to work against the decision of the party and the leaders’.

Emphasizing that Ashafa has served the senatorial district with great distinction, Ogunleye appealed to politicians to eschew violence ahead of the 2019 general election.

He also urged them to desist from maligning the integrity, character or name of opponents.

“For every position, there is only one person that will be there. Whoever wins, we have to support that person.”

Meanwhile, supporters of Senator Ashafa on Tuesday ran for safety as suspected thugs invaded and disrupted activities at the constituency office of the member representing Lagos East Senatorial District, pasting posters of Osinowo on walls of the senator’s office.

Ashafa while condemning the invasion of his constituency office called on his supporters to remain calm.

Rivers 2019 poll: We will leave PDP if zoning, direct primary is not adopted – says West

Posted on September 14, 2018. Filed under: Press Release |

…the leadership of the PDP should respect the principles of democracy

Barr.West3Soalabo West, a governorship aspirant under the aegis of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has threatened to leave the party if it jettisons the principle of zoning and direct primary when it selects its governorship candidate for the 2019 governorship election.

West, a lawyer from Buguma in Asari-Toru Local Government Area, declared that he will seek for an alternative political platform to actualise his gubernatorial ambition if the PDP does not adhere to its time-honoured tradition of rotational zoning.

Speaking on a Radio programme, on 91.7 Wave FM, monitored in Port Harcourt, on Wednesday, the aspirant noted that “the PDP has been winning elections across the country, because it protects the interest of minority groups together with the fact that it has entrenched the zoning of political offices.”

He insisted: “For the PDP to make credible impact in the 2019 general elections, the party must play by the rules and continue to apply the zoning formula, anchored on equity and fairness.”

West challenged the leadership of the PDP to make a definite statement on internal democracy, evidenced by direct primaries and zoning of the governorship office in Rivers State to the people of the riverine areas in the 2019 and/or 2023 elections.

He stressed: “If the demand to enforce the zoning formula and direct primary are not genuinely addressed, I will leave with my teeming supporters to any other party that would best serve the interests of the riverine peoples’ of Rivers State.”
